INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

NOTE: It appears that something changed recently and now we are seeing flights that are not available for sale such as scheduled charters. It does not appear there is any way to detect them as of now. They will now appear when they change.

It's a bit hard to make sense of this from the report, but it seems that UA is eliminating some of the triangle routes in West Virginia and increasing nonstop service.

The website doesn't really make any sense of it either. There are 3 MGW inbounds and 2 outbounds, one of which still shows via CKB. This might be a work in progress.

It's a point-to-point route that they put in partially to support BOS-LHR. I'm sure it never made money. Dropping it could mean that BOS-LHR has become good enough to not need the help of that losing support sector, so that could be a good thing overall???

I guess that's possible, but I don't really think WS is that strong in YYZ to USA markets.

Yeah, you'd think it would make more sense for WS to offer BOS-YYZ since they have lower costs and a YYZ hub. Probably a boost to PD since anyone flying DL between the BOS & YYZ wasn't loyal to UA/US/AC.

Yes, there was a short-lived effort in 2009 or so, and I think there may have been one other.

The problem with JFK-MKE is that Milwaukeeans are pretty well conditioned to drive to ORD and catch nonstop TATL flights. When I had NW status and flew to MKE a lot, I can't count the number of people I sat with in F or "elite" coach seats who talked about doing that rather than connecting in DTW/MSP notwithstanding their status.

Definitely a midcon, MCI isn't anywhere close to the east coast. At any rate, it's a switch from 1x 319 to 2x E75, so the change in capacity is not substantial. It makes sense to give up BOS before LAX given that DL seems intent on continuing to grow its presence at LAX, while BOS is really not a "focus city" anymore.

How many times has this route now been cut over the past three-five years?

I seem to remember that they cut it for a few months during this past winter but its since been resumed. I'm not sure if this is the same thing again because last time I don't think the cut it until like December and they also didn't add a LGA flight in its place.

Strange to increase a transcon in September
*DL LAX-MCI SEP 0.9>1.8 OCT 0.9>1.9 NOV 0.7>1.8 DEC 0.9>1.9 JAN 0.9>1.9

More like a midcon
Quoting steex (Reply 9):
Definitely a midcon,

Whatever...my point is that East-West is generally a Summer game. Those markets really shrink in the Fall and Winter. Adding a trip in September is poorly timed.

DL is going from 1x A319 to 2x E75 on MCI-LAX. Slight capacity increase, but frequency spread across the day. Now MCI will have both a morning and late afternoon departure to LAX (7am & 4pm) and 9am & 6pm departure from LAX.

Looks like this may be where the spare 744 being sent DTW-ICN will be coming from.

That's just a month. The ICN lasts a lot longer than that.

DTW-ICN 744 is being "funded" by DTW-NGO going from daily to 5x per week, and from DTW-NRT operating with a 77E every-other day (the opposite days still being a 744). It doesn't look like they schedule has been fully set yet though.

OK, that makes more sense. It would be very un-Delta to add capacity at the beginning of off-season.

Already pointed out again by PSU.DTW.SCE, but as I said in the very next sentence of the post you quoted from me....

Quoting steex (Reply 9):
At any rate, it's a switch from 1x 319 to 2x E75, so the change in capacity is not substantial.

Operates at 3x during the summer, appears to be extending the peak schedule frequency/capacity out through Oct/Nov.

glad to see this staying at 3....hopefully at some point we can see some CR7's or CR9's on this route. Plane is always packed!

Maybe my memory is failing me, but I don't recall this seasonal route continuing past late October in past years. Always good to see a service boost.

I think you're right. I don't think PHL-BCN has ever continued past the date of fall back to standard time, which this year will be Nov 3 in the US.

And this route starts in March whereas the other seasonal route start in May. I flew this route 3 weeks ago and it was packed with cruise traffic

They couldn't take on AC and PD?

Any chance of WS coming to Boston now that they lost a codeshare destination?

Yeah, you'd think it would make more sense for WS to offer BOS-YYZ since they have lower costs and a YYZ hub. Probably a boost to PD since anyone flying DL between the BOS & YYZ wasn't loyal to UA/US/AC.

Just checked Massport arrivals last night and WS still codeshares with AA on BOS-ORD though they only serve YVR and YYC seasonally from O'Hare.

DL appears to be replacing one the of the CRJ-200s on ATL-CID with a CR7 starting in November.

Agreed that 38 seats is much less significant than it seemed to be.
