Those are the days I remember when airlines flying 727s, Dc 9s (some still do   ) and 737-200s for more than twenty years, now A319s build in the earls 2000 years are considered AGEING !!!!!!!

Also interesting it will be no more A319s but A320NEOs for Easy if Airbus wins the order. Maybe we will see an order in Le Bourget

Despite all the rumours .... I would be very surprised if Airbus didn't get this order.

Yes- it will leave a nice gap for the c series.

The Neo will likely stay in the "lead" because it has an 2-years delivery slot advantage.

That would be my thinking; they need an aircraft in the 150 seat class, but that's more likely to be a C-series, not a 319NEO; the Airbus order will be for 320NEOs.

It would be a massive boost to the C-series to get a blue-chip low cost carrier on board.

What will also be interesting is what engine they choose. Their A319s have CFMs but will the GTF cause them to switch engine supplier, especially with the potential commonality with the GTF on the C series?

I haven't run the numbers myself, but I have heard that the MAX is tracking about as well as the A320neo did at the same point in their respective launches.

Overall, the A320neo has averaged 2.33 sales a day (across 911 days) compared to the MAX's 2.03 sales per day (across 680 days) per http://www.pdxlight.com/neomax.htm so the MAX is closing the gap even though it's been on sale 2/3rds as long (and is spotting the A320neo many, many hundreds of delivery positions due to it's later EIS).

What do people think about easyJet getting the A321 NEO???

I was thinking there might be a likelihood of a mixed order of A321 and A320 NEOs... Especially for slot contrained airports like LGW.

It wouldn't surprise me if we saw an order of 20-30 A321's...

I think we will also see a similar order of around 100 C-Series aircraft too, ordered at the same time.

They probably have some delivery slots left because not every customer will take all Neo's before 2020. Many are slated for a > 2020 delivery, leaving some slots open before the end of the decade.

There was a feature in Flightglobal last week saying that the MAX had outsold the NEO during the period it had been on offer.

This of course can be interpereted as many airlines that wanted the NEO had already ordered it before the MAX was offered.

It is possible, I imagine, that an additional order may be made for 'conventional'/current models to bridge the gap until the neo/max/cseries are delivered.

Would be good if they did so. But the rumours could also be made bigger as part of negotiations tactics. Everything is possible here. But another 100 A320-neo's would of course be very welcome for Airbus and Easyjet.  .

Despite all the MAX talk, I assumed that this order would go to Airbus (of course, I might yet be proved wrong). Definitely don't see A319NEOs (or B737MAXs) being ordered by Easy but think that A321NEOs will be part of the fleet at some point.

That leaves the question of a smaller capacity aircraft. They could eliminate routes not capable of supporting the A320, could run a smaller fleet of the more recent A319s until 2020 or later while they decide what to do (the most recent are only a couple of years old) or order C-Series. I will be pleasantly surprised if they go down the C-Series route in the near future.

The complication is that the launches are closer together (1 year) than the EIS (c. 2 years), so based on availability alone, the MAX is likely to lag in this metric

So, after all the talk and the rumours and the "Easy are switching to the MAX" and "Easy are going to order the C Series" and "Ryanair are talking Airbus again" stories, we ended up with the totally and utterly predictable result! (FR ordered more 737s, U2 ordered more A320s).

Oh well, at least we got to talk about something while waiting   Back to "When will DL(NW) retire DC-9s?"..........

I feel sorry for the C-Series... The NEO and Max just seem to be swallowing up existing customers and gaining new ones whilst the new E-jet is annihilating its regional capacity.

I believe he has something like a 35-37% holding, so on his own he can't block anything. He was certainly unable to block the last big order, despite his opposition to it.

I think he's already given up control of the trademarks.
