Not sure of the source, but has anyone heard anything official?

From reading the article, it seems that some tours are being cancelled, not the routes that UA has there. At least that's my interpretation of the article.

yep, this is awful journalism.....there is no way in hell UA would cancel SJO or LIR....those are great performing routes for them

Yeah, from what I have been told the loads and yields are pretty decent (as is much of Central America from IAH),

I think weekly, seasonal ORD/IAD-SJO may be pulled back, but SJO is one of UA's largest Central American stations.

Look at the routings carefully. All include secondary international city. UA flies nonstops from these cities to hubs so these are either charters that didn't materilize or perhaps route authorities that they chose not to fly. Nothing there to suggest a pullback or pullout that I see.

What that incomplete piece of news is trying to say is that United is asking for the cancellation of the routes Continental was once authorised to operate.
Remember that at different times Continental flew to SJO from IAH via PTY, MGA and GUA.
Also included on those routes United still has authorisation to fly which doesn't mean currently flown by it, are those route UA flew when it got the routes from PanAm; by then UA flew MIA-SJO, IAD-SJO, ORD-MEX-SJO.
Looks like UA is watching what's going on with AV in Central America so in the meanwhile it's keeping the authorisation to fly LAX-GUA-SJO.

This could be tied in with the proposed adjustment by Avianca Taca going daily to ORD starting mid September.

Daily from Guatemala City or a new route from SJO?

Seeing AA adding DFW-BOG made me wonder if anyone would be looking at ORD-BOG in the future.

I wonder if its a play on the actual metal used UA vs CO.

Neither, they're dropping GUA and going to SAL daily.

Star to Star hub...

Wow, i know SAL is a tag on to GUA right now, so instead of before when there was 3 times weekly to GUA and SAL, then the tag, now daily to SAL. This is due to the merger correct? Hopefull they will look into ORD-BOG next.
