US Airways will re-launch PHX-MIA on October 27. The route will be operated daily with Airbus A320 . And will drop PHX-FLL on October 27.

This is an old America West route.

When the merger is completed I think that AA will have 4 to 5 non stop flights to PHX.

Yeah, I see an uptick in frequency on this route once the merger is completed. that being said, I would have thought they would have kept both FLL and MIA.

AA will have a pretty small presence at FLL. If you combine AA and US you get CLT, ORD, DFW, PHL and DCA. And I wouldn't be shocked to see DCA go too. That's a pretty minimal presence for a large airport (more domestic traffic than MIA!).

Just in the past few days AA has cut FLL-JFK/LAX and US FLL-PHX.

AA will have service to PBI from places where there is no FLL service (LAX, LGA)... I think that says a lot about what AA sees as FLL's position in its network. And I'm inclined to agree. If you have a huge hub at MIA you don't need more than a minimal presence at FLL.

FLL-JFK isn't resuming this year?

I'm surprised US isn't keeping PHX-FLL, if even only a single daily frequency. In season, they were operating as many as 3x a day and always seemed full, both in the back and front. I wonder if Spirit will enter the market or if SWA will turn their seasonal daily nonstop into year-round with an additional frequency.

According to another thread, no.

More importantly, this is one of the most heavily traveled routes in the world.

One flight a day for the winter months = why waste your time?

Doesn't AA also fly FLL-PAP?

Yes, they still fly FLL PAP.

You're right. Forgot about that one. I've always found it a bit odd that it's hung on even as AA has drawn down FLL.

This is not 100% correct.

US operates 2 daily FLL-PHX flights. One of them is being moved to MIA. The other will remain at FLL.

I was wondering about that because the US schedule still shows a single PHX-FLL flight after Oct. 27 along with the MIA flight. Also, if you look at last season, US was running as many as 3 flights a day on PHX-FLL, one of which was a red eye. It may have operated less than daily though. That's what really surprised me about the initial report that it was going away completely.

I don't think AA will ever drop this flight.

I heard it is one the best performing flights in the network.

BUT, with B6 beginning FLL-PAP in a few months, this could put AA FLL-PAP in jeopardy.

Hm... anyone else think US might be interested in merging with AA?

Its good to see this. Lots of behind the scenes work going on to rationalize schedules as well as plan the exit from Star and the entry into OW.

We should be about three weeks out from the merger close give or take a few days if everything is on track as planned.

US is not discontinuing FLL-PHX. It will continue to fly the route daily.

Quoting mesaflyguy (Reply 7):

Yes, and AA just added a third daily for peak winter this year.

I'd like to see a PBI-PHX as well, would be a nice addition to coincide with AA's new PBI-LAX flight. Wishful thinking.

It is interesting that AA is adding PBI-LAX and not PHX as well.
