Embraer delivered the 1,000th E-Jet production aircraft yesterday during a ceremony held at the Company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos. The E175 was handed over to Republic Airlines, a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings, which will operate the aircraft on behalf of American Eagle. The delivery is part of Republic’s order for 47 E175s that was announced at the beginning of 2013.

The E-Jets family entered revenue service in 2004 when the first aircraft was delivered to LOT Polish Airlines. Currently, E-Jets are flying with 65 airlines from 45 countries. In June of this year, Embraer launched the second generation of the E-Jets family - E-Jets E2 - the first of which is slated to enter service in 2018.

Quite a feat in just 30 years from their days of the lowly 'Bandit' to a major player in the aircraft biz. Congrats!

Somehow I've never flown on an E-jet. I've *tried*... but substitutions have made it not happen. And its not easy finding E-jets on the US West Coast.

That is just as important as the thousand jets delivered. It ensures a liquid resale market. It insures a ready customer base for the E2 (which is more technically more of an improvement that I initially expected).

Never had the chance to try one out. My father (who is as much an aviation enthusiast as me) flew the E195 with AD and was quite pleased. Embraer seems to have really hit the jackpot with this family.

Congrats for them. These are beautiful planes though I confess I always hated the older 145 models.

Flew TA's and CM's E90s...nice pocket rockets...you feel the kick on the chest when they start the takeoff run. Also comfy enough for a tall guy...

I really enjoy flying on the E jets. Much more comfortable than the 3-3 seating config. BA's e190 is a great aircraft. Comfortable, roomy and powerful. Love the LCY take off. Last flew one in Jan.

Flightglobal has an article about the production rate of the E-Jet. In 2014, Embraer will produce 90 to 95 E-Jets (about 8 per month) but will not increase production beyond this rate, despite all the new orders they received.

Quote:
“We want to make sure we don’t fall into that trap,” he says, calling overbooking a “luxury” enjoyed by larger manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus.

They are amazing machines. I know a pilot who flies them and he said "that plane is built like a Mac truck, but handles like a BMW". I love to fly on them and I would take a full E190 over a full 737 or A320...if it is outfitted like Azul in Brazil.

If anyone has a chance to go, the EMBRAER showroom (hanger) is an airplane lovers dream.

Question, with 8 per month, how long a wait if an airline were to make a good size order?

Not counting the new E-Jet E2, the backlog holds 266 aircraft, which represents 3 years of production.

I'll hijack the thread to ask a question and post a possibly random curious fact about the E Jets. One of my teachers in the airclub works in the maintenance for the presidential aircraft here in BSB, and he mentioned that the E90 not only has FBW systems, but also hydraulic ones for main systems (ailerons, rudder). Which I think is quite a nice backup, knowing electronics and all. Can anyone confirm this?

So I have a question... From a passenger's perspective the EMB 170, 175 is much better than the CRJ 700 & 900. How much less expensive/more efficient is the CRJ in that it seems to be out selling the EMB, even with the issue of gate checking luggage on the CRJ?w

Do E-jets have RNP technology?

BTW, Embraer recently delivered their 400th Phenom too.

FBW is a way to "send orders" to the control surfaces, via electric cables/computers. This is opposed to mechanical links, cables with pulleys and such. Hydraulics are used to actually move the surfaces, sometimes to boost the force coming from cables, acting as additional muscles for the pilots (Boeing 737), sometimes as the only force, sometimes associated with electric actuators (some Airbus). There are always several hydraulic circuits, allowing important functions to have two/three sources of hydraulic power.

In a FBW system you have several kinds of backups, for example multiple computers. No cables as backup though, the exception I know of being the C-17, a military plane.

I've only managed to get a flight on an E Jet once, a CLT-ORD flight on Shuttle America/United Express back in 2005 or so. Being accustomed to flying on CRJ-700s, the E-170 was a very pleasant surprise.

Most excellent. But I think you understand why it was a challenge before to book a Ejet flight in my geographical area.
With DL buying a bunch of the type, I suspect many opportunities will arise.    But that is future tense.

The plane is efficient..the big big problem and this is one of the reasons TA will get rid of them sooner or later, is the belly space man. From SJO they have to leave luggage behind most of the time. I have done 4+ hours with full pax and their bags in 190s. Those people must be checking in the kitchen sink and then some. How high is SJO and how long is the runway?

Considering the woman ahead of me on my last MIA-BSB flight checked into Business Class with - I kid you not - 29 full size bags + hand luggage, I don't doubt his information...

And no, she wasn't with a group. She was just a very rich old lady, apparently.

I have flown them with AC, very nice ride, certainly does not feel like an RJ. Even though in the AC fleet renewal threads there are those who seem to think they are on their way out at AC, it is certainly a hugely versatile aircraft for them. Equally happy on a 45 min regional flight or a 5 hours transcon and can do both efficiently. What a great plane!

Funny paradox at AC is that it is a great aircraft, inasmuch as during winter ski season it can take far more snowboards etc than any CRJ or Dash 8 that would normally operate the routes.

Is there a reason for that? Simply its increased size over the CRJ and Dash 8?

And how does the CSeries compare (to the best of our knowledge) ?
