He will pick on an airline when it's in trouble(HP losing kids, NW drunk pilots, TW landing wrong airport).

But whenever he tells a generic airline joke its always Continental.

Monday's joke: Taliban & Al Queda prisoners flying to Cuba, sat on the floor, hands & feet tied, fed grub---or as CO calls it....COACH!  

To be sure, he has other companies that are the pun of generic jokes; Denny's, Nike, The Sizzler

I'm wondering if this fosters a feeling in the general public, that CO sucks.

Which of course is not true--they don't suck any worse than other US carriers.

it is very odd you mention that because I said basically the same thing to my girlfriend last night while watching the tonight show. I have seen Jay rip Continental for a long time. Maybe he is pissed they left LA for Houston  

The fact CO keeps winning awards says more than Jay in some respects, but sadly some folks get their only 'news' from Late Night TV

I have two ideas...

1. Leno doesn't really write the jokes. He picks the ones his writers write and that he likes. Yes he does also write his own, but my point is that one of the writers may not like CO because of bad experience and that may be why.

2. American and United have so much bad news with the whole 9/11 thing he couldn't bash them. Then continental, NW and delta are the big big carriers left.

I hardly think it has any bearing with CO's success or their perception in the public's eye.

Basically Leno is an idiot, and he makes jokes that appeal to idiots.

I love CO. I really don't care that he makes fun of them because he is my favorite late night talk show and is funny as hell.

CO still flies heavies to LAX I think from IAH and EWR. The also have a daily 764 flight to HNL from LAX.

Usually jokes like this INCREASE CO's popularity.

I heard GWB's staff was happy that he was being made fun of all the time, because it kept him in the spotlight and gave him more name recognition.

For the benifit of those here who haven't a clue who 'Leno' is.....Jay Leno is the host of 'The Tonight Show' and is aired five nights a week on the US NBC network. (If it's shown anywhere outside the US, I'd love to know). His humor is not my style, I prefer his main competitor, David Letterman ('The Late Show' on CBS) myself.

ILS I meant the Headquarters. CAL is based in Houston, and in the early 80's it was still based in LA (Mr Lorenzo came in after that). That is what I meant. Granted a bad joke but hey I tried.

Jay Leno is not an idiot. Just cause you don't like his jokes don't go attacking him personally. He does a lot of charity work and is a good person. As far as his attacks of Continental. It has nothing more to do with it being a big carrier. Delta and Northwest have their fair share of "generic", as you call them, jokes. As stated above American and United Airlines are off limits; that just wouldn't be right. Also stated above is that when he jokes about a company or product he is inadvertently giving it a plug. In short....it's not a big deal and don't go around with personal attacks because you don't like his style or jokes!

Leno doesn't write the jokes he uses on his show... he has writers who write them for him these days. Leno is actually very funny, the best on the late night talk shows I think. Cant stand the other three on NBC and CBS.

Jay Leno rules... like mentionned above he is a good person, and if you don't accept his humor, then too bad for you... but don't attack him.

He was invited onboard a KC-10 refueler plane some weeks ago, and was given a pillow and sheets to sleep on the floor of the aircraft. He then mentionned: "Not very confortable, but it sure beats SouthWest"

I guess this would prove he doesn't only joke about CO. Remember when that SouthWest 737 skidded off the runway into a gas station in Burbank... sure it was next door, but he shot jokes about SW for a while after that.

some time ago NBC europe showed the tonight show every day in germany. Unfortunately, it was removed because NBC europe shows now GIGA (an internet tv show) the whole day ...

Jay Leno can be seen in Sweden on Channel 5 (Kanal 5), every midnight. (except saturday,sunday) just like in the US.

My comment on the Leno vs. Letterman argue, I think that sometimes Leno is better and sometimes Letterman is better...

Here is the real scoop, I used to work for CO and one night on the red eye from LAX-EWR. I was up set with the size of the overhead bins, there was no room for him to put that honkin nose of his! They had to gate check it!  
Letterman is far better than that idiot anyway!

Really? I thought the airline he generally picked on was America West. After they lost several children in such a short time, I was hearing America West jokes for weeks!  

Some people need to reread my original post CAREFULLY!!!!!!

He's gotta pick on someone. He picked on the Detroit Lions all football season and I had to tolerate it even though Detroit Lions finished off the season better than Carolina Panthers who he may have only made on joke about.

AFN has both Leno and Letterman back-to-back every night. AFN is broadcast in a few areas in Germany for the stationed GIs. Since I´ve got a good antenna and an NTSC-capable TV, I´m one of not too many people who can watch them over here. 

I can stand Leno. I just can´t laugh most of the time.  

Letterman rules!!!
