I have read many posts that describe Doha International as a dump. I guess the management visit airliners.net. I am very sorry for such large pictures.

About the Kuala Lumpur (KUL) services, when are they going to fly daily and has it been confirmed? The future Asian routes will it involve KUL as well as an extension?

Thanx!

The pakistani community in Qatar who i know a lot of people from prefer the gulf carriers over PIA. And if they want a bargain they take Aero Asia.

PIA Doha to Pakistan 3x per week

Karachi 2x (737)
Peshawar 1x (737)
Lahore ?

Qatar Airways to Pakistan 11x per week Jan8-March31st 2002 (Loads are good esp. for Peshawar)

Peshawar 3x (320/300)
Lahore 3x (320)
Karachi 5x (320)

The daily to KUL will probably start in the Q3 2002. The information i got was from a newspaper. MH codeshares on this flight. My friend who is a travel agent says that MH fully books there allotments on the aircraft. He said Qatar Airways also gets a good load especially in First Class and Business Class. All the extensions of KUL that i know of is Jakarta which was upgraded to 3x week froom 2x week after 2 weeks of service inaugral.

I forgot to mention that the new PTV that have been introduced on the A320 is

First/Business
8.4 inch LCD
In-Seat DVD (first in any commercial airline service)

The A330s will have PTV's in all classes and the First and or Business will also have the in-seat DVD.

Is there really that much traffic between Doha and Kuala Lumpur? They had just barely started their service into KUL one month ago and they are experiencing such good traffic? Wow, this is something! Will all 3 flights to KUL operated by A332 in April then?

Thanx.

How many A330 did Qatar Airways order? All in A332? By the way, what aircraft is Qatar Airways using on the DOH-KUL-CGK run? From what I had read in the newspaper, they plan to make KUL as their Far East hub, but I know the inaugural flight didn't have that good load factor.

Here is the traffic break up of DOH-KUL-CGK

-Connecting Passengers from Europe (Similar to EK)
-Labourers from Indonesia.
-Tourist (120,000) from the region this year 250,000 est. next year. (I my self will go to Malaysia in the summer)
-Business Travellers. The Qatar Government encourages Qatari investors to invest in Malaysia.
-Last but not least CARGO. That is what Qatar Airways wants to emphasize on they are converting 2 A300 to Freighters.
-QR usually has slow launches because the marketing isn't the best in the world.
-The first A332 will arrive in to QR in April and it will fly to London only. The Second and third will arrive in June/July. One of these will be used to Kuala Lumpur.
-QR have ordered 5 with 3 options they are all 332's. The options can be converted to A333.

New Straits Times

A surge of tourists from the Middle East is expected this year with the introduction of more flights from the region.

The Emirates airline will have daily flights in May to Kuala Lumpur, adding three flights to its current four out of Dubai. The airline is also considering having extra flights during the peak summer period of May to September.

Gulf Air will increase its thrice weekly flights out of Abu Dhabi by one and hopes to increase its twice weekly flights from Bahrain also by one.

Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said today Qatar Airways also planned to increase its flights to a daily basis from its present thrice weekly flights from Doha.

Abdul Kadir was speaking at a Press conference at his office here after returning from a eight-day trip to the Gulf region where he attended a conference for culture ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Conference in Doha.

He said before leaving for the trip he had sought the approval of Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik to approach the airlines in order to encourage them to increase their flights here.

The Middle East is important for Malaysian tourism as tourists from there stay at least two weeks here and like to spend on shopping and travelling around the country, Abdul Kadir said.

He said the Yemeni airlines, Yemenia, had confirmed its inaugural flight from Sanaa on Jan 15 and expect to have two flights by the end of the month.

Abdul Kadir said he was accompanied on his trip by the Ministry of Transport's aviation advisor, Datuk Bashir Ahmad.

He said an estimated 250,000 tourists were expected from the Middle East this year, a more than 100 per cent increase from last year where there were 113,833 arrivals.

In 2000, there were 53,370 arrivals, which Abdul Kadir said was a more than 100 per cent increase from 1999 when 21,731 Middle East tourists arrived.

He said the main problem faced by Middle East tourists was having direct flights to Kuala Lumpur.

I once made a brief stop over at DOH in '99 while flyin BAH-KHI on GF. There wasnt much i saw while sitting in the plane....the airport was small and deserted...but these pictures are surprising and very impressive....some shots indicate that there is a great deal of similarity with the new Dubai airport.

New DOH duty free is nothing compared to the new BAHRAIN DUTY FREE - now more than ever, the best in the world!

A logical extension of the KUL services would be flights to Australia.

The Doha Duty free may not be up to par with the New Bahrain duty free but at least it is an improvement.

The new airport will be much better than Dubai or Bahrain. If you can look up my posts you can see it. It will be finished by Q42004 but the new runway will be finished earlier

According to Mr. Al-Baker the CEO Qatar Airways will double it's destinations over the next four years. After the first A332's is delivered Qatar Airways will concentrate on Asian destinations. The most likely ofcourse are Hong Kong and Singapore. There are at least 3 new destinations to be anounced this year so it is highly likeable the Hong Kong will be served by 2003, probably earlier.

Amo757
South / South East Asian Destinations served by Qatar Airways are

*All A300 aircraft will be phased out by 2003/4 except for two which will be converted to freighters

Karachi (A320/A300)
Peshawar (A320/A300)
Lahore (A320)
Bombay (A320)
Dhaka (?)
Trivandrum (A320)
Khatmandu (A300)
Maldives (A320)
Colombo (A320)
Kuala Lumpur (A300)
Jakarta (A300)
Manila (A300)
Bangkok (A300)
