Thursday 17 Jan 20:30 In Business
With the airline business in turmoil, the Big Two plane makers are radically split about the future. Boeing thinks the industry wants faster planes; Airbus thinks they need to be bigger. Peter Day asks who's right.

There are carriers that need much bigger aircraft and there are some that need faster ones (and there are probably carriers that need faster and bigger ones. Looks like neither a nor b can do business with those), depending on the routes and customers group serviced. So why make a dispute out of it that will surely evolve into a fully-grown a vs. b clash? (which is probably what the radio guys want in order to keep listeners awake)
Regards
Andreas

How 'bout slightly bigger, slightly faster, and slightly more efficient, eh?

This program should be amusing, anyway...

I think their basic philosophical difference is, Airbus - very large aircraft going hub to hub (and 4 engines for long range). Boeing see's large twins going point to point.

I think the Sonic Cruiser is more a niche than basic long range strategy.

Oh and I'll bet the Boeing guy will start calling the Airbus guy filthy names and they will get into a fist fight and someone will have to call the police to break it up. I'm listening!

There won't be a fight. The bigger Airbus guy won't be able to catch the faster Boeing guy.

TWA717_200: There won't be a fight. The bigger Airbus guy won't be able to catch the faster Boeing guy.

...and the faster Boeing guy wasn´t able to reach up to the bigger Airbus guy. Big grin

I think it went pretty smoothly. Not a lot of new insigth beyond what was discussed around here, but a nice overview and commentary.
