I'm planning a trip to Japan and I've found some good flights on the weekend of the week of July 4...Is that day known to be a very busy travel time, or should I not worry about it? The airports I'll be connecting through will be Detroit, with 4 hours to connect from a int'l flight and Memphis, with a couple of hours.

Yes, indeed. It is the day before my birthday (everyone has to travel to see me Big grin ).

Sorry, I couldn't resist.. I am sure mid summer travel is quite busy though.

Yes, it is definitely one of the most busiest times of the year. Expect nearly all flights to be packed!

Shouldn't unless we get some big old thunderstorms which blow up from time to time in DTW. 4 hours is pretty good though, that should be fine. Of course any airport could have bad weather at any given time, so its just luck of the draw.
