Topic: BRU: Au Revoir LD - Bien Venu CX Username: Established02 Posted 2002-04-23 17:32:19 and read 1031 times. The "Financieel Economische Tijd" reports today that Air Hong Kong will cease its operations at BRU as from the 1st of July 2002. LD will re-direct their operations to the Far East only.
The good news is that mother company Cathay Pacific will take over some of the flights to BRU. As from July 1st, CX is planning to have 5 flights a week to BRU and may increase the amount of flights in the future.
The operations of Air Hong Kong at BRU were very successfull. They were the second largest cargo operator at BRU, behind Saudia.

Yep, I read it too this morning
Air HongKong that operates now 7 flights a week to Brussels, will stop flying to Brussels (and their fleet of 3 B742's will be reduced to one B742F, they will use the aircraft within Asia).
Cathay Pacific will now come to Brussels, 5 times a week with the B742F, and probably if the results are good 7 times a week within some months.

Topic: RE: BRU: Au Revoir LD - Bien Venu CX Username: Cathay Pacific Posted 2002-04-23 17:57:16 and read 920 times.here's an abstract from CX's press release:
Cathay Pacific Airways and Air Hong Kong today jointly announced plans to restructure operations in order to maximise the efficiency of their cargo services and enable Air Hong Kong to focus on serving the Asia region.
Air Hong Kong will from 1 July 2002 stop serving Brussels, Manchester and Dubai and continue to serve Osaka and Seoul.
Certain resources will be re-deployed between the two companies, but this will not result in any forced redundancies in Hong Kong. A number of Air Hong Kong staff in Hong Kong will be offered the choice of continuing to work with Cathay Pacific |

Cathay Pacific wants to make of Brussels it's fourth cargo base in Europe (like (I can be wrong now) Amsterdam, London and Paris are already now).
Thanks for the article CX

Topic: RE: BRU: Au Revoir LD - Bien Venu CX Username: Cathay Pacific Posted 2002-04-23 18:10:58 and read 888 times.According to their press release, they(CX) are seeking government approval to start cargo service to Brussels and Mancester.
Also, the article stated that Air HK leased 3 B742 from CX, but they will return 2 of them, so that means Air HK will only have 1 aircraft in their fleet??!!?? Will Air HK be getting some smaller cargo planes for their regional network after returning the B742 to CX?? |
Topic: RE: BRU: Au Revoir LD - Bien Venu CX Username: Sabena 690 Posted 2002-04-23 18:13:49 and read 882 times.Hey CX,
Check my first post.
Two B742's return to CX, and the one B742 of AHK will fly within Asia, and not to Europe anymore.

Topic: RE: BRU: Au Revoir LD - Bien Venu CX Username: Cathay Pacific Posted 2002-04-23 18:23:56 and read 867 times.Yes, I know, I was referring to CX whose seeking government's approval to start cargo service to the 2 European cities mentioned.
And after returing the 2 leased B742 to CX, AHK will only have 1 742 in their fleet, so I was was wondering/ask if AHK will get some smaller planes for their regional service.

I believe one of the four CX's cargo hubs in Europe would be FRA and not AMS.
> LD staff
LD staff at BRU and MAN are mainly westerners, or a considerable amount of Chinese ex-pats as well?
Overhearing the ATC conversations, it sounds as if LD's pilots are always British!
> Cathay Pacific will now come to Brussels,

Actually, does CX still have the B742F in their fleet? I would (wrongly?) think that CX only has the most modern aircraft in their fleet. Perhaps CX may consider to repaint two of the three LD 742's into CX colors.
744rules, euh... I would love to see these pictures as well. Please?

Well, I can imagine that not so many people on this forum are familiar with the name and the fate of the first democratically elected president of Zaire/Congo.
Obviously, most people here have chosen a user name that is aviation related. However, your user name touches a quite painful chapter in the history of Belgian-Congolese relationships. Is your fascination/interest for history & politics equally strong as your passion for aviation?

As for Air Hong Kong they will later operate the DHL flights around asia using the fleet of A300F's that CX are EXPECTED to buy. |
