Delta Makes Traveling Between Dallas/Ft. Worth And the Big Easy Much Easier
Thursday January 9, 2:17 pm ET

NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL - News) will introduce expanded Delta Connection service between Dallas/Ft. Worth and New Orleans with the addition of seven daily non-stop regional jet flights beginning April 6, 2003. Delta Connection carriers Atlantic Southeast Airlines and SkyWest Airlines will operate the new service using the popular 50-passenger Bombardier regional jet. Delta will continue to operate one daily round-trip flight between the two cities.
With the new service, New Orleans passengers will have a total of 21 round-trip flights to three Delta and Delta Connection hubs -- eight flights to Dallas/Ft. Worth, 10 flights to Atlanta and three flights to Cincinnati.

"Additional flight frequency is very important to our customers, particularly our business travelers," said Fred Buttrell, president and chief executive officer, Delta Connection Inc. "Not only does the new service give New Orleans passengers more opportunities to fly to their favorite destinations, flights at the Dallas/Ft. Worth hub have increased 13 percent and two connecting banks have been added during peak travel hours to provide a more convenient travel experience."

Known as one of the quietest commercial aircraft in the world, the CRJ has revolutionized air travel through its broad passenger appeal, convenience and comfort. The plane carries passengers in a comfortable two-by-two seating arrangement; every seat is an aisle or window, with no middle seats.

This is one of the biggest single-day flight expansions I've ever heard of from New Orleans!
2 737-800's to be replaced by 7 CRJ's? Not a bad deal in my book for such a short flight. Good job Delta!

Depends how you look at it. If you ask me, it's a downgrade since the route will no longer be operated by Delta equipment. It'll be operated by Delta Connection carrier, Skywest.

I'd rather have the 2 737-800s than the 7 CRJs.

But that's just me.

So by this release, I take it the DL JFK-MSY service didn't last too long?

Good job Delta?

Thanks for the support man.

Nothing feels fantastic like being outsourced.

Most of the people I know would take convenience over getting on a larger plane for a 1-hour flight (DFW-MSY is only 1 hour in flight time). This is a big business route, so it's a good thing for the frequent flyers. I'm just glad to see my airport getting more frequencies. 3 flights a day compared to WN's 7 and AA's 6 just was not cutting it. At least they will be keeping 1 mainline flight.

Sure, I would have liked for them to keep the other 2 738's, but I figured this would happen sooner or later. I expect this will happen to other cities too.

Gigneil,

This is for JFK-MSY on Delta been dropped for after 9/11 from last year of 2001. It was no longer used service for JFK route. Right now, I do knew Jetblue was service to JFK flight already. It is operate for 1 daily roundtrip nonstop and not for second daily yet either. Because it was too low factors on Jetblue to JFK flight. Maybe will getting better anytime soon. Well, talk ya later!!

Regards!

According to a JetBlue employee at MSY (and an aquaintance of mine), the one nonstop to JFK does "great". No word of the 2nd one coming back of course. Better one than none!  Smile

AA will pick up the slack when they add a second LGA flight shortly.
