Some years back Flight International had reported SV planning to start operations to China, in particular the Muslim dominated South West city of Urumqi, any info on that? its about time they entered the Chinese market. At present thay have scheduled cargo services to Taiwan.

I would be surprised to see this happen....the flight to Urmqi I mean.

Do you think that the Chinese government would be enthusiastic about opening a direct route between the birthplace of Wahabi Islam and a part of their country that has a large, rebellious Muslim population?

I'm surprised they haven't started services to HKG yet. Their sole cargo destination in Asia is TPE (from where?) with the 742F. I would've thought they'd start cargo services to Hong Kong as the air freight sector in Hong Kong is booming & enjoying rapid growth. Perhaps it's on the cards?

As for pax services, I think it's feasible from RUH or JED via say BKK to HKG with the 777 or 747 (most probably the former), as they'll be able to capture the heavy BKK-HKG traffic.

Saudi Arabian Airlines flies to Taipei during the days when Taiwan and Saudi Arabia maintained the political relationship. Even CI flew to Dhahran before.

Right now, Taipei is Saudi Arabian's biggest Cargo hub in Asia, with flights connecting Dammam, Bangkok, Tokyo, Osaka, and Colombo.

I doubt the Urumqi service too, but Hong kong, Beijing and Shanghai have potential. Of what I know SV also have scheduled cargo services to Tokyo with their own MD11F.

SV also have cargo services to NRT? I thought it was just TPE in Asia. Anyway, I really hope they start flights to Hong Kong & in fact I expect them to by year's end.

Woops, silly me, I didn't read Bigo747's post properly.

I think SV's livery looks absolutely stunning.

Please note that Taipei isn't in the same China as Urumqi... Taipei is in Republic of China (Taiwan), while Urumqi is in People's Republic of China. Both countries are different thus saying that Saudia flies to China isn't correct, because short name "China" is most commonly associated with PRC, not RC, for which short name Taiwan is commonly used...
