NW Worldgateway Twov Facility.

So, according to:

the new DTW facility has a Transit Without Visa facility, allowing passengers to enjoy the facility without clearing US Immigration or Customs.

So, why is this allowed at DTW and not at MIA? I know Iberia would sure enjoy having this benefit.

Has anyone on here ever used the TWOV facility? Bet its pretty boring in there actually... does it have shops and food and whatnot?

TWOV is not available at 2 noteworthy international airports, namely Cincinatti, OH (CVG) and St. Louis, MO (STL).

The traditional non-inspection TWOV program has been suspended since September 2001 and replaced with a full-clearance TWOV system that requires passengers in transit to submit to a full US INS and Customs inspection during transit. The non-inspection TWOV system has been reinstated for ITI flights (but still requires APIS upload and verification), but currently the only flights I am aware of that take advantage of this are Cathay Pacific YYZ-ANC-HKG and Air Pacific YVR-HNL-NAN.

The TWOV system has the following requirements :

* The airline has an agreement with the Immigration and Naturalization Service to carry passengers in transit;
* You are limited to two transfers of aircraft in the U.S.;
* You are in possession of an onward ticket and have the ability to enter a country other than the U.S.;
* You are scheduled to depart the U.S. on the same or connecting flight within 8 hours of arrival, or on the next available flight;
* You will arrive at one of the TWOV designated POE’s

Passengers availing of the TWOV system must fill out the BLUE form I-94T in advance of arrival into the United States.

Citizens of the following countries are NOT eligible to TWOV, including ITI transit :

Afghanistan
Angola
Belarus
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Burundi
Central African Republic
China
Columbia
Congo (Brazzaville)
Cuba
Iran
Iraq
Libya
Myanmar
Nigeria
North Korea
Serbia
Sierra Leone
Somalia
Sudan

Citizens of the following countries are permitted to use ITI transit, but for TWOV must fly all segments on a carrier with approved TWOV lounge facilities :

Bangladesh
India
Pakistan
Sri Lanka

Finally, all passengers using TWOV programs (with the exceptions of permanent residents of Canada, Mexico or Carribean Islands) must be traveling on round-trip tickets purchased outside of the United States, Canada, Mexico or Carribean Islands. One-way tickets are not permitted except in the case of persons with residency rights in both the country of origin and destination.

The TWOV facility is nothing more than a small room with chairs and a TV... no food or shopping.

The DTW TWOV facility doesn't have a TV unless they just added one recently.

It is a small room about 15x15 feet with some chairs and a radio that seems to be always blasting gospel music. There is a computer in their for the TWOV monitors to use... oh and there is a crazy monitor girl there that argues with herself a lot.

Next door to the TWOV room is a small vending room with a Pepsi machine and a candy/chips machine that the TWOVs can use.

The monitors also can escort the TWOVs to the restaurants around the terminal if they are staying at DTW for a while.

Extra chairs were added outside the TWOV room since it got busy last summer when several TWOVs from Asia were travelling to Canada to see the Pope for that youth fest thing.

Are you sure there is a TMOV facility in DEN? Because everytime I've flown on British Airways or Lufthansa to Denver, it was mandatory to clear Customs. There is no other way out.

Or am I missing something? Perhaps I don't understand how TMOV works and I'm making a fool out of myself right now.

TWOV does not neccessarily mean that you don't have to clear Customs. In fact my post clearly states that the non-inspection TWOV program has been suspeded since September 11. The TWOV passengers at Denver would pass through Customs and INS checks along with the normal passengers, except they would fill out form I-94T, their passports would be retained by the airline and they would be escorted at all times by airline personnel. The actual facility is probably an unmarked door somewhere that doubles as a break room.

It all sounds positively horrible. European airports are much better about this, yes?
