A report from Nepal Association of Tour Agents stated that Qatar Airways would be starting service between Kathmandu and Kuala Lumpur.
According to the association's hon secretary, QR's chief executive Akbar Al Baker said in a press conference in Nepal last Friday that QR would be starting daily flights between the two cities in April.
Anyone else heard this news? If true, it's certainly good news for the KUL as KTM would be a new destination from the airport, but a daily sounds very ambitious. And I guess it'll be at the expense of the nonstop Doha flts, which will all be routed via KTM.

QR is interested in a lot of different things and an airline which is looking for so many different possibilities really will a bright future. Just to mention the airport in CMB and Jaffna etc.
I'm pretty sure that there is a demand between KUL and KTM and I always was wondering why MAS never wanted to go into KTM.
I wonder if QR would get traffic rights between KTM and KUL.
Just to mention, I really hope that QR will continue it's DOH-KUL nonstop service. I don't think that you could promote a Europe-DOH/DOH-KTM-KUL flight for pax between Europe and KUL.

Qatar Airways was recently given the right to carry passengers between KTM and the following destinations
- Karachi
- Muscat
- Kuala Lumpur
- Brunei
and two more I can't remember. Karachi and Muscat bust be flown DOH-MCT/KHI-KTM and KUL and Brunei can be flown as an extension of KTM. The press conference anounced that QR got those rights (they got those since late last year) but it is only speculation at this point if they fly to KUL from KTM which I think is unlikely. IF (and that is a big IF) they do, it won't be to the expense of the daily non-stop but to the expense of the BKK-KUL flights which are already on the chopping blocks from what I have heard (not confirmed)
QR's aircraft arrive in KTM in the afternoon and depart to doha the next day in the morning, so if QR do decide to fly to KUL from KTM they won't need extra aircraft but they would need more crew and at this point that is difficult. Starting March 30th QR's flights to KTM would go to 11x weekly (13x subj to gov approval) and so the aircraft will only overnight once a week which would make this extremely unlikely.

Oh and one more thing, QR's schedules for the summer season are very flexible (read: unorganised). One day you get an email saying 4x weekly flights to XXX next week 6x weekly flights to XXX and then 3x weekly the week after etc....

Suprisingly enough I did fly QR from Doha to KUL and half of the y class passengers from Nepal and they were getting connecting flight from KUL. I did not ask which airline did they take to Nepal

QR is the only airline that flies between DOH and KTM. KUL-DOH-KTM is a pretty weird routing. Has Thai stopped flying to KTM? I am sure they would be a better off flying through BKK.

I have been puzzled by the QR schedules to Kathmandu for sometime.
They have been pretty much locking up the aircraft for the whole day in one flight with something like an 18 hour stop at Kathmandu.
I dont imagine there is any slot restriction in wither Kathmandu or Doha, hence I assume the sole purpose of this will be to give an immediation connection to the European flights (LON/PAR/MUC) whichhave all early afternoon departures??

Swissgabe,
Seems strange though - there DOES seem to be a QR4874 (MH74) and QR4875 (MH75). Amadeus does show it only if you select the carrier QR for a DOH/HKG routing but the flight info boards at KLIA don't seem to show the QR codeshare.

QR 4874 is loaded in Amadeus all right. Since there is a traffic restriction on the flight (for online connections only) it will not show up if you request just for KUL HKG.You have to request a DOH HKG avaiability.

Actually, Qatar Airways is going to suspend the twice weekly DOH-BKK-KUL route vice versa. I seriously doubt any passengers will want to fly from KUL to BKK at 3 a.m. and passengers who wants to fly to Doha will probably opt for the nonstop flight instead.
