I can recall in the 70's and early 80's that the Ford motor company had what amounted effectively to a small airline, comprising two BAC1-11's and a Gulfstream I, based at Stansted flying executives between the UK and Europe. The aircraft were UK registered, painted white and grey with a smart orange and blue stripe and orange tail and operated out of a hangar and offices at the southern end of runway 05.
With Ford manufacturing now substantially downsized in the UK, I was wondering if the airline still exists either in mainland Europe, in the US or perhaps South America?
I would assume that even if it does, the 1-11's and G.I are long gone.

They had two BBJ's. I know they recently sold one of them and then turned around and bought a 737-700. (I still haven't been able to figure out why they did that) I don't know if they still have the second one. I imagine with those two aircraft that they may still offer such a service, but I have no idea.

yes, it does still exist. the operate a 737-700 at least twice daily between London STN and Cologne-Bonn CGN. don´t know if that´s the BBJ, or just a 73G with generous seating. got winglets, though.
cheers

Ford's UK manufacturing is off, but not as substantially downsized as you point out. They just introduced three new car types and still own Jaguar (among other concerns). True, things are off everywhere for F, but Ford is still a sizable company in the UK.

At Detroit DTW, Ford has a corporate airline that flies execs around the country. They have two F-70s and a few Gulfstream Vs and some other corporate jets, I remember they used to have Convair 580s. These are the only two F-70s left in the U.S.
General Motors also has their corporate airline based at Detroit, they have 3-4 Saab 2000s (the only S2000s in the U.S.) and some Citation Xs and a few other small jets. Their hanger is right across Runway 21L and R from Ford at DTW
Daimler Chrysler, on the otherhand flies out of PTK which is Oakland County Pontiac International which is north of Detroit. They have an A319 and an A321 along with a few Gulf Vs

Up until mid-summer 2002, Ford UK operated two B737-7CP(BBJ) aircraft, registered VP-BFE (c/n 30753) and VP-BFO (c/n 30755), but these are now in service with the USAF/District of Culumbia ANG 201st Airlift. Today, Ford operates two ex. Braathens B737-705s (not BBJs), VP-BBT (ex. LN-TUB, c/n 29089) and VP-BBU (ex. LN-TUC, c/n 29090). The latter aircraft wear the colourscheme worn by the Ford MD-87s during the 1990s...

Actually the colorscheme that you show the non BBJ 737 wearing is the colors that Ford wears on their F-70s and Gulfstreams at DTW too.

GAWZU, excellent work on the new 737s for Ford Europe. In addition to these aircraft I believe they also have a Hawker 800.
Ford Flight Operations at DTW is making a change in their fleet as well. All 5 G-V's are up for sale and two have been sold. These I don't believe aren't painted in the Ford Europe colors. However their F-70's are. N322K & N324K.
These fly daily shuttles to Ford Locations around the US. HII, SNA, SDF, LUK, CLE, & STL are the main cities served from DTW. In addition to the F-70's Ford's new fleet will include two F-900EXs (N326K & N327K) & two F-2000s (N329K & N330K). 326 & 329 are flying, but I haven't seen their paint job. Ford USA jets can be seen regularly @ EGBB.
As stated on the west side of the runway is General Motors' Hanger. GM has an extensive fleet as well. 2 G-V's (N5101 & N5102), 5 C750's (N5112 - N5116), 1 C650 (N5117), & 3 Saab 2000's (N5123 - N5125). N5125 was used as a NASCAR charter last year and 5123, 5124 are for sale.
DaimlerChrysler flies from PTK. Their US fleet was downsized about a year ago. Left are 2 G-V's (N910DC & N920DC) and 1 G-III (N960DC). DC has a A319CJ only and it's based with the German fleet in Stuttgart. It's registration is D-ADNA. In addition to the A319CJ, the German fleet has 1 Global Express, 2 CL-604s, 3 LJ60's, & 1 F-2000. Rumor has it that another Global Express is due to enter service soon. We will see.
