According to justplanes.com,

21/01 - Air India should select aircraft type by the end of this week

Is expected to finalize its choice for 17 new aircraft on Friday (24Jan). Airbus and Boeing are in the running for this contract.

But isn't there also a competition for 15 aircraft to replace the airline's A310s? Apparently, the 739 and 321 are being considered for this. It suprises me that AI would pick a narrowbody to replace the 310s, particularly on premium routes to SIN/HKG/KUL/BKK etc, where they are up against stiff competition.

Apparently, the B737-900s or the A321s are set to replace the A310s. Should be an interesting day this Friday  Smile

This "air of expectation" is a repeat of a similar exercise not too many years ago . . . let us hope that this Friday, a firm decision will be announced and the future of Air India can begin to crystallise.

There has been too many false starts to this fleet re-equipment exercise.

Whether a fleet of Airbuses or Boeings (in alphabetical order and showing no favouritism) is chosen, it is a good decision.
