Time is getting short for SWISS MD11's I presume. According with the information we have about the arrival of the first A340-300's ( mid 2003 ) can we say that SWISS will retire the MD11's in one-to-one basis with the Airbus? There's any schedule date for the MD11's to leave? What will be the destination of these airplanes after they leave SWISS?
I wait good feedback on this matter.

I would guess they will end up in MHV, which already has several Swiss and Swiss Asia MD-11s.

Weren't these birds earmarked for freighter conversion, and to be sold to either FedEx or UPS?

They were, but FedEx decided not to take them over even before Swissair went out of business.

It is sad to see the Swiss MD11's go, but at least they will fly another day and we can get photos of them wearing another operators colors.

They will more than likely end up at MHV for a short time joining the other birds already there.

They are not getting that many A340's. I'm sure the MD-11's will go to another freight carrier. UPS, Saudia or Even LH may take them.

On the SWISS website (and of course on my little ZRH site showed in the profile), you will see a list of all MD11, A340 and their names they will carry. You will see, that all A343 have the same names, as the MD11. So, it's a good guess, that the 12 A343 will replace the 12 remaining MD11 on a one-to-one basis.
