Hello guys!

I would like to confirm if I am correct. UPS has 3 MD-11's at the moment, 250,251,252? Is this all for the time being? How many more are they suppossed to get, and when?

Also, what are the routes they are flying now?

I believe its only SDF-ANC ANC-HKG HKG-ANC ANC-SDF? Am I right?

Thanks!

The original "order" was for 13 used MD-11's, with options on a further 22.

With JAL, DL & SW all retiring their PW MD-11's, there should be no shortage for UPS.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

But for now I think they only have 3? Any idea when the next one will be delivered?

The MD11's for some reason didn't last long in the pax service, and hopefully we see them in cargo service for many years!

Check my photos in 5 or so days, I have some interesting shots coming!

That reason is no mystery... MD11s have an inefficient wing/airfoil design, too small a rudder, pitch difficulties, etc; and as such, they failed miserably to deliver the performance specifications promised by McDonnel Douglas. Once the A340 and especially the 777 debuted, the M11s demise was assured.

We can thank the MD-11, however, for the contribution of the trailing edge wedge to the 744ER's airfoil design.

And for the research necessary to create the MD-10 quickly and extend the life of that Douglas airliner.

I have talked you some UPS MD-11 pilots, and they like the plane a lot!

Will UPS be picking up any of the parked planes in the desert like the ones from VASP? If so, any idea which regs and when? I might be able to catch them in ANC.
