Ok, a few questions I was wondering about, so I thought I'd dump them all in one post and see if any of you guys out there can help me.

1. Does CX plan on introducing their 'new Economy class' fitted on their A340-600s to the rest of the fleet? Considering that they have just fitted slimline seats onto their 747-400s... which new product (if at all) will the A330s and A340s get?

2. I assume that the old business class product will continue to be fitted on regional A330s and 777s, seeing as they seem to be progressively fitting new controls for the PTV. Can anyone confirm?

3. Row 64 on the A330/340. According to the seat map this is where the fuselage begins to narrow, and shows 64AC on a slight angle, and seems to show 64A as having slightly better legroom. Is this true? (I know row 54 has the best legroom so please restrict your comments to row 64 only, if possible. Thanks.)

4. There are six A340-300s still not yet retrofitted with the new First or Business class cabins. Anyone know the timetable for retrofitting?

5. Can anyone please tell me the registration of the aircraft due to operate CX107/5Feb, which is the CX108/6Feb? (AKL service). Thanks heaps!

I can't answer all but here're most of them:

1. While retrofitting the New Business Class seats on the 747-400s, the entire aircraft also goes in for an overhaul. The economy class seats will be replaced by the new , as you call it, 'Slimline' seats, AVOD installed in the Business and First Class cabins, while the First Class Video-on-demand system (Video-8) is removed. No idea if the A330 regional fleet will get the overhaul but the new A330-300 for the international 3 class flights would have received the new economy class seats as well.

2. Yes. The current Business Class seat product remains on all regional aircraft. Namely the 777-200s, 777-300s and 2 class A330-300s.

3. Don't know about this one.

4. The 5 A340-300s that will be reconfigured are :
B-HXG (by 28Jan2003), B-HXD (by 30Mar2003), B-HXH (by 27Apr2003),
B-HXJ (by 21Jul2003) and B-HXK (by 25Aug2003).

5. I have no access to registration numbers. CX will only release that info AFTER the flight has departed. I can only tell you which aircraft is planned ie if it has the NBC configuration or not.

Thanks for your answers GuyBetsy1. A few points I'd like to clarify:

1. The A340-600 Y seats have bigger PTVs and according to a TR I read, something about better cushioning. Do the new 'Slimline' seats have these features?

4. So B-HXC has already been retrofitted?

5. If it's possible to get this info after the flight has left, I'd really appreciate that (I have a bet with a friend who's on it that I can't get it, and I'd really like to win!)  Smile

I have no information about the seat in question as I haven't been on the A340-600 myself.

2. FLIFO information is restricted for ordinary peons. Try to ask CX res for it. They might give you more information than I have access to. I can only know the A/C registration number only if there is an aircraft replacement due to mech error. I won't be able to know if one particular A/C is flying that day.

Till CX release a full report on the new Economy class product! I really wonder what they mean by the slim line seats! They look a little too slim for comfort! Or are they trying to squeeze more seats into the plane while retaining the seat pitch at a modest 32'?

I do not think CX will have AVOD on their new Economy class. There's where SQ is one up on CX, with AVOD progressively being installed on all classes in all 777s and 744s. But CX has bigger PTV screens in the new Economy, so till SQ upgrades the size of the PTVs on Economy, we'll still have the old screens at 6.4'. Not too bad, in my point of view.

How well does SQ's AVOD system in Y work? I've found the CX system to have quite a few teething problems at the beginning of the flight usually meaning the system has to be reset often by the ISM/pursers.

So far from my friends who flown the 772, there were no significant problems with SQ's AVOD. Even if there are, they should be sorted out by now, AVOD for Economy has been around for quite some time.

According to this topic, it seems the AVOD service on Singapore Airlines is having quite a number of problems, I've personally experienced problems with it on my flight on a 777-300 with SQ http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/29626/

Cathay may now have bigger TV's, but what's stopping me from flying them is the seat pitch, my legs often touch the seat in front of me, and since I fly long-haul most of the time, it's very uncomfortable, I wish they would increase it.
