In the Feb edition of Australian Aerospace QF's Head of Sales and Marketing states that QF will be upgrading its new IFE to Video on Demand with 50 movie titles, SMS text messaging and internet (Connexion by Boeing) in 2004.

It is also mentioned in another article that the installed IFE system has almost achieved the targeted 99% dispatch relaibility.

Also domestic food is currently under review with big improvements and a new menu planned. He also talks about the new business class bed.

Further all customer service staff are currently being retrained in service excellence. "Mystery shoppers" have also been introduced to provide detailed critiques of staff service standards.

He said the "new" Qantas 1 year out would be a totally new airline.

Glad to see Qantas taking the Ansett attitude towards IFE and inflight amenities/ catering. Good to hear! Good to hear!

I guess the next thing to do will be running a re-training programme for their rude flight attendants. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Jimmy

PS What's Air NZ doing to improve their IFE?

The re-training program is for all flight attendants and check in staff to ensure "consistency in service excellence" which he admits has been lacking.

I just flew MEL-BNE-MEL and i got a new 737-800 on the way and a 737-300 on the way back, and the service was excellent! We even got free beer and wine on the return flight plus the flight crew were very polite and very helpful.

Yeah, have to agree that Qantas has rather inconsistent service from the f/a. You sometimes have such helpful and polite flight attendants, while on other days you get f/as that are so rude it's unbelieveable!

It's good to see them striving to improve. Do they plan to install AVOD in Economy too?

well, I flied QF a few times, and I can say their crew's attitude is not always good, at least on the average, they are worse than DJ's.

QF management thinking in some areas seems to be comparable to a pendulum - swinging from one extreme to another. In IFCs case it was titbits in a cardboard box or a glad wrapped roll and now it's almost pseudo Ansett standard catering and free piss in an ever increasing hour range.

With regards to :
" "Mystery shoppers" have also been introduced to provide detailed critiques of staff service standards."
Why don't they just ask the bloody passengers instead of "planting" staff on board to assess service levels?

Another area that will be of interest in the very near future is the deployment of the reconfigured (all economy) 737s. Pray tell QF are you going to refund already booked and paid Business Class on routes where these are deployed?

Does this mean domestic PTV's? Also a family member just did the Perth-Melbourne red eye on a 2-3-2 economy layout(what a/c was that) and was given a amenity pack containing toothbrush/eyeshades/neckthing/and socks. Since when did this start on domestic!!

Thanks bye.

2-3-2 economy would be a 767. For that reason it's my favorite plane for domestic flights.

Tsv, yes, the first all economy 737 is out there already, with the aim that all the 737-300s will become all economy on leisure routes. Passengers already booked in Business class are being offered flights on other aircraft, or a reimbursement for the fare difference. It ain't Air NZ Express!

Is there any news on whether Qantas will introduce PTVs in Y class on the A330-300s (due to arrive later this year)? I hope they do this.

I'm sure they will... if they are offering PTVs in their new International economy product in general then it will make its way on the 333.

Unless they don't consider South East Asian flights "long haul". Then maybe they won't.

Qantaspower, is PTV+AVOD on domestic services as well? Or is it just in international services?

Thanks

Thanks AJ but you spoilt my fun as I actually already knew that was the situation - I was just throwing it out there to see if anyone (particularly any anti-QF posters) would bite with an "interesting" reply (like "yeah as if they would refund"). Just call me a stirrer.

If you are still out there AJ what was stopping them transferring / leasing them to QantasLink so that they kept all economy out of the "main" Qantas fleet?

I see from your profile that you are a pilot with QF (Did you notice by the way that we joined Ailiners.Net on the same day) what sort of aircraft and routes do you fly?

Regards

Rob

QF should upgrade their 767 for the international flights, they are a bad competitor with the other airliners, ie CX, SQ, EK etc.

That is a great thing to hear that QF are finally improving inflight entertainment with the AVOD. I knew they would catch up.
Although, an even better thing is the fact that they are re-training their service staff, which should be a blessing.

Hopefully with the new uniform and new service standards (particularly with the replacement of the 763 with 333) QF will be a completely new airline in our eyes. I hope to see Qantas catching up with some asian competitors.

QF said right from the start that AVOD would be added at a later date. When QF actually announced their system it was the best out at that time, the day later SQ came out with the MAS 3000 system and upstaged them lol.

As far as i know not all 763s will be replaced, well not for quite a while anyway.

Qantas needs to replace the 767's operating from Melbourne / Sydney / Brisbane / Perth to Hong Kong, Singapore & Tokyo in particular to compete with the likes of Cathay and SIA.

The QF 744's are now very competitive with the IFE now installed however the 767's are not compared to Cathay's A330's and SIA's 777's.

Once the war with Iraq is over and things settle expect to see a further big fleet expansion for QF with alot more A330's. Remember the CEO said that they had identified a further $20Billion in capital expentiture on top of the current fleet expansion.

Australian airlines will be taking probably 6 more 767's from QF. This will allow QF to deploy the A333's to Hing Kong, Singapore and Tokyo.

on the subject of AO i have heard they have shelved their plans for a southern base and are looking at another northern base. (heard this one a few times even from AO staff). Another popular rumour about AO is they are looking at another aircraft type.

Lets start another Big grin QF is gunna order the 7E7 then give the 332s to AO lol

If QF are going to replace the 763s on regional international flights with A330-300s they had better order some more.
