All I can say is THANK GOD!!!!!!!!! That symbol was insulting, revolting, and represented the streotypical BAD image of the entire airline!!!

It was mentioned on BBC News website. The proposed new colour includes blue and orange.

Nice Boost for SU, PS I flew JFK-SVO and their new service is really great.  Smile)
They give you stirpped down Biz. Amenity Kits in coach now, slowly living up to the Europen Ailrine, now just add PTVs and I am happy.

PS: Aeroflot is adding amenities like kits when others are eliminating.

Slawko, I agree completely. Communism killed more people in the 20th Century than any other human-inspired event, including Nazism. The hammer & sickle was a symbol of that evil doctrine as was the winged hammer & sickle of Aeroflot.

Correct, historians estimate over 70M people people died at the hands of Soviet and Chinese hegemony in the 20th Century, conducted in the name of strict Communist ideology. The largest events being Stalin's purges and the Chinese cultural revolution.

About time they got a new livery! What's the point of having a Hammer and Sickel livery if the country isn't communist anymore? doesn't make sense. That and the livery looks really bland- needs more colour.

I really don't want to turn this into non-av, so this will be my only post. Stalin was hardly a communist in any manner more than being a member of the party in the USSR, which of course was just part of controlling power at the time, Both the USSR and china were strict bascialy fascist governments using an economic system oringaly based on on communism (though in both cases it continued to evolve significantly over the years). To blame the actions of a crazy despot on the nations original economic idelogly is like a bit of a stretch at best. that said, they aren't even pretending to be communist anymore, so it makes sense to get rid of the sickle.

I am not kidding you. The livery is much more nicer than many other liveries around. Someone might see the hammer and sickle as a symbol of communism, but otherwise the livery is very nice. The white and blue is symbol of Russia,(I believe that old Russian flag, had these colors, please correct me if I am wrong) and there is nothing wrong with that. However, as I have mentioned above, I have no idea what does the orange symbolizes. Any ideas?

BTW, this livery might be older, but looks great, as does the Alitalia's, Air France's, Iberia's, etc.

The world over associated the hammer and sickle with Communism, and terribly despotic and ruthless regimes--not to mention "cold" and awful customer service, which Aeroflot has been known for since...well...forever. Its not necessarily the tail colors that I am worried about, they look pretty decent...I cant complain...and neither can Delta because they ripped their tail right off from Aeroflot. I think the name Aeroflot, and the hammer and sickle have a lot to do with the reason why the reason why they have trouble attracting business in western countries.

By the way---Alitalia and Iberia's livery looking good is debateable..  Smile And AFs livery only looks good when the plane is clean.. Big grin
