Anyone know why a Polar Air Cargo 747 visited LAS today? I was at a bank on Sunset & Green Valley Parkway today and I noticed a 747-200 coming in. Since that location is directly under the final approach path into 25R/L at McCarran. I waited and let it pass right over head at about 800 feet (literally, directly underneath..ALWAYS fun!!).

Anyway, I noticed the tail had the blue and white that polar air cargo has (I wasn't quite sure since I was seeing it directly from the back, couldn't see the whole tail, but it was obvious).

This was around 9am this morning.

Then as my travels continued throughout the day, I confirmed it was Polar Air as the 747 was sitting on the ramp between the D gates and the cargo area. Must not have fit into the cargo area.

Anyone know why we had this unusual visitor? I am not complaining, always nice to see something unusual.

The bad news could be, maybe it is getting retired. I thought I had heard about Polar having some financial problems. Remember Vegas is a storage area for retired airliners.

Hopefully it was carrying freight though.
