JAL is introducing first 777-200ER long-haul service from August 1, according to JAL online timetable.

JL403/404 between Tokyo and London on certain days will switch to 2-class 772 service from 3-class 744 service.

This will be the first JAL 777-200ER long-haul service.

Effective till July 31, JL403/404 on certain days will be operated by M11.

If the 772 are new planes, why are they not in the new livery?

Forgive my ignorance - does this mean the loads into LHR have dropped so much they are shifting to smaller capacity or are these flts extra sections?

The 772 flights aren't additional flights as Bigo747 states in his post, they will just replace the JL403/404 MD-11 (which replaced the 744) flights on select days on August 1. They do look beautiful indeed. I guess with the economic downturn in Japan & globally and the possibility of war, there's been a drop in passenger traffic between London & Tokyo.

How many 772ERs is JAL receiving, and what other routes are they expected to fly on?

The traffic cant be that bad - JL has 2 daily's on most days (mayb everyday i dunno) also daily to KIX, and used 2 have 3 or 4 times a week to NGO with MD-11's before 9/11. BA has 2 dailys 2 NRT (how come they cut places like KIX, NGO and SEL from their network a couple of yrs ago?). Also VS fly daily with A340-300/600 and NH with 747-400's. NH used 2 fly 4 times or so per week to KIX but stopped after 9/11. Even if JL drpos 2 777, there r still tons of seats 2 Japan from Heathrow - is London Japan's No 1 long haul city???

Well, there are actually 3 JL772ER in service at the moment.
JA701J and JA702J = Old Color
JA703J = New Color

My friend @ singapore has seen the JA703J and he said it is operating into SIN and KUL since first flown offically.

But she has yet flown to HKG yet.

I think LA might be Tokyo's number 1 longhaul. I could be wrong.

I'm confused on some of the above points... how big a capacity cut is the JL 772 over their MD-11? It is a bigger aircraft, after all.

Yeah, LAX is probably the longhaul destination with the most flights out of Tokyo. There are something like 10-15 daily flights between NRT & LAX.

Gigneil:The MD-11 will take-over from the 744 on some days, and then on August 1, the 772 will be operated on certain days.
