KLM Departed YVR 1400?

I was driving by YVR this afternoon (Feb. 22) and noticed KLM taking off at about 1400. KLM usually departs about 1900. The aircraft didn't looked smaller than the 767 they usually use. Could they have been taking delivery of a new 737. I know sometimes airlines will take delivery of their Boeing aircraft at YVR to avoid some taxes.

Anyone know about this aircraft?

Read that again, that doesn't make sense. Every 737 I knew, even the 900 is smaller than the 767.

I am sorry but you are wrong HlywdCatft the 900 is about the size between of the 732-773, its okay people seem to make that mistake quite often.

KLM681 arrived at YVR at 11:30, so it could have easily left at 2pm.

It is/was a 763ER.

Ken it's just the daily KLM flight 682 departing Vancouver 13:25 PM and arriving Amsterdam at 8:05 AM (local times).

And by the way finally we've got a daylight flight to Europe. No more red eye for KLM travelers, which personally I think it's a great idea. This flight gets you early morning to AM), Netherlands">AMS (approx.11:05 PM Vancouver time) when you are still fresh for your next 1-4 hours hop to your final destination.

No more idle time at AM), Netherlands">AMS for another 3-4 hours for a nooner connection, if you know what I mean!

More so starting Apr 06 KL 682 will depart YVR at 1:05 PM and arrive AM), Netherlands">AMS at 7:40 AM.

It seems that AC is also follow trough with a daylight flight to LHR starting Apr 06 scheduled to depart YVR at 1:00 PM and arriving LHR at 6:25 AM.

Going to Europe I would surely opt out for one of the above flights.

Ooops, I meant to say the aircraft looked smaller than the 767 they usually use. And then I looked at KLM's timetable and you're correct, they have a new flight schedule. Interesting that they are leaving earlier. I suppose it will make for better connections to other European destinations.

For sure the above flights will get crowded both ways not only because of their very convenient departure and arrival times but also because of that fabulous choice of connections beyond Amsterdam London and Vancouver.

I won't be surprised to see both airlines KLM and AC upgrading their equipment on those particular flights next year.

On the other hand I have a feeling that we might see BA and LH downgrade their equipment as a direct result.

Just so you know, the KLM flight is 5x a week (doesn't arrive on Wed/Sun).

KLM may upgrade to 777-200 next summer, or MD-11 if we're lucky - but I highly doubt BA or LH will ever downgrade. LH especially, would probably increase service during summer. Don't be surprised if in the coming years we see FRA-YVR 2x daily with A346, and possibly MUC-YVR w/ A342/3.

I reckon you mean summer 2004 as the B777 won't arrive untill October 2003.

BTW the B767 is scheduled for YVR for summer 2003

First of all KLM is scheduled to fly AMS-YVR daily starting April 06, 2003 using a B767. In addition to this daily flight starting May 21/23 Martinair will have 2 weekly (B763) frequencies on this route as well. Air Transat is also introducing a once weekly with 1 stop (Calgary) starting May 15.
Martinair will do a twice-weekly YYC-AMS starting May 19/22 with a B763. One of these flights will have a stop in Edmonton.
So if everything goes smoothly I would conclude that AMS it's up for some good loads coming from Western Canada this summer.

I doubt that BA can much longer sustain a B747-300 between YVR-LHR simply because their late departure time from Vancouver (20:35 PM) and late afternoon arrival at Heathrow (1:50 PM) - would suggest that BA is poised to cater to UK visitors only, rather than connecting travelers. On top of that AC flight 854 is scheduled to depart Vancouver just half an hour earlier than the BA flight. And as I mention above AC is introducing its new 1:00 PM departure to LHR, which is in my opinion the ice on the cake.

I would agree that the demand for Frankfurt and Munich from Vancouver it's out there but AC/LH are very happy with the current state of affairs. Only one flight daily could at times bring you more money (with less effort) provided that the only competition on the route are 3 other weekly flights by Air Transat (1 stop) and Condor Flugdienst.
