Penerbangan Malaysia, the holding company for Malaysia Airlines, told that the airline has ordered six of the ultra large Airbus A 380-800. No firm decision has been made on the powerplant for the a/c, with the airline already operating a mixed fleet of General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and RollsRoyce powered aircraft.
Three planes will be delivered in 2007 and the other ones in 2008. The A380 will provide a solution to congestion at many of the airline's key destinations as well as support the forecasted traffic growth in the region and will replace Boeing B747-400 on routes to the UK, Europe and Australia.
