As an addition, I know that the DL timetables are screwed up. They don't reflect any of the changes occurring at DFW which go into effect on April 6th. They still show DFW-MSY as 3x 738 in April. But the new DFW-MSY schedule is 7x RJ and 1x MD90.

The new PC timetables should be up tomorrow (they pretty much always do it the first business day of the month). For example, my current timetable (Feb 2003, downloaded yesterday) shows that there are 4 727s on MEM-ATL for 4 Jun 2004, which we all know to be wrong.

The last day for a DL 727 in scheduled service will be April 6, 2003. This is because the "new" cockpit doors have to be installed by April 7, 2003. DL is not putting the doors in the 727s.(They do currently have the bar but not the 500lb door). I hate to see them go.........take the MD-88s....those things are JUNK!!!!

I'm very sad about this - I am going to miss this plane, and I've been frantically trying to find the most economical way to get me to GSO for that last flight. *sniff* I hope someone's prepared to comfort me on that day

I would join you if I could but unfortunately I cannot make it to this final flight, I will not be in the United States on Apr 6th. I made it last year with American because I was in Miami the day of the AA727 retirement, but this year it doesn't work out for me. I would have arranged a trip to Atlanta just for that if I were living in the United States. Have a good time.

Sad to see em go ;( Lovely birds they are!
My most memorable experience, was when I was able to clear DAL1251 JFK - DEN for takeoff. The captain was nice enough, to switch on the strobe on ground so I could see him from the tower. It was allready very dark outside back in December 2000. The 727 roared down rwy 31L and I cleared him to contact departure. Thing he took the bridge climb or was it canarsie? Dont remeber.
The route he flew was: KJFK COATE FLINT ONL SNY LANDR KDEN
Flightnumber was DAL1251
Anyone know what happend to this flight? Cant find it on any timetable or amadeus.net anymore ;( Seems like no direct flights to Denver from JFK. Is that correct?
BTW: Is there a way to get out the registration of the 727 that used to operate on that 5th or 6th December 2000 as DAL1251?

JFK-DEN was cancelled a few years back. In the past few years, DL has axed JFK-SAN, JFK-PDX, JFK-IAH, JFK-DEN and JFK-MIA. Some of these cities have enough international service on their own, so they don't need the connection through JFK. Others have found it more convenient to connect through traditional hubs. It also doesn't help that DL has reduced the number of European flights out of JFK over the past ten years.

I am very happy that I was able to get on a DL727 DFW-AUS about a year and a half ago (October 2001 I think). I thought I would probably never ride on one again. Indeed, on the way up to DFW we got an MD-88. Great flights both directions, went up for Texas-OU 2001. We lost the game, but at least I didn't have to brave the drive on I-35! And I only paid $67 round trip...considering my truck gets about 16 mpg, it doesn't cost much more to fly
Firings, if well done, are good for employee morale.

Just talked to delta, they called customer care, they agreed that GSO-ATL is the final flight. I'm still going to wait another week or so before I book, I always have trouble talking to DL over the phone.
I waited like 15 minutes to talk to someone. Finally I get a DL rep, so I tell her my situation and about how I want to be on the final 727 flight, and heard it was April 6 GSO-ATL. She says "OK sir, I don't understand what you mean, what about the 727?". At that point I wanted to hang up.

Very very very sad to see the 727's go. I have only been on 1 DL 727... it was so funny, that flight was like torture. I was already nervous cuz I knew the plane would be old and this was at the time when most DL 727's looked trecherous (1999) and burned and stuff and my plane was no exception. Then I could smell fuel on the plane and my seat belt broke and the bins were about to fall off...but in an event I am sad to see them go! They have the coolest take-offs
