A local area Chicago man was bitten by scorpion on a Mexicana Airlines Chicago bound flight. I just saw it on WGN news at noon. There is a link to the story on but you have to be a member to read it. I think they said the man is from Guanajuato. So i am guessing the flight originated in Leon.

How did the scorpion get on board of the plane, did a passenger carried the animal along? Scorpions are very shy and I can not believe that it was living on the ramp because it is usually very loud there.

Did it bite him or sting him? There is a big difference.

I remember an incident where a passenger had a scorpion in her pocket for the whole duration of a charter flight from the Caribbean to the UK without even knowing until they put their had in their pocket on arrival, and got a nasty suprise!

I was bitten once by a scorpion in El Salvador. It got me in the hand and it hurt like a bastard, until my entire arm went numb. I thought I was going to die.

Just to make it politically correct, A scorpions means of defense is by stinging with its tail, not by bitting. I have had many experiences with those damn things living in Phoenix, AZ. Still I have not been stung by a scorpion to this day. I hear it is not a good experience!

Hmmm..apparently scorpions like flying Mexicana. Some years ago, a friend of mine (whose husband, BTW, is a Mexicana A320 pilot) was flying MX SFO-PVR-MX), Mexico">MEX with her 5 year old son. It was a red eye, so they were both asleep, until she woke up to find a scorpion crawling down her child's arm (he was still asleep). She used a magazine to brush the thing off the boy's arm, so it didn't sting him.

Hey I just wrote what the paper and tv station said, "bitten" not stung, And those WGN reporters call themselves journalists. I shouldn't be saying anything I am journalism major myself.
The man is doing fine, they showed him walking around. He got stung on the back.
