I'm supposed to be flying into Halifax, Nova Scotia for a week-long vacation on July 6-14, so I'm wondering how Halifax International is as an airport?
I hear that it's even farther from downtown Halifax/Dartmouth than YEG is from Edmonton's downtown core. Not to mention that it does not have any observation deck, either.

You'll enjoy the Halifax area. Great for summer vacation. Yes, the airport is in the middle of nowhere, but it's a quick highway ride to downtown and the coast. As I recall from a few years back, it's small but adequate. No deck, nothing really exciting. Some good views of the runway from the terminal.

Just there today, as a matter of fact. Some construction in the terminal, but overall very attractive. It's not huge, but you see a unique variety in Canada. AC, WJ, CJ & Jetsgo all serve YHZ, along with Air St-Pierre from France with ATR 42s, rounded off by Pan Am Clipper connection. It's sort of a mini-hub for AC's atlantic coast ops. Of course, you have the Zoom and Transat charters. The airport is about 40 minutes from downtown, or an hour if you take the airport shuttle.

That's great. I don't think I'll have any problems with that airport! While the variety is unique, will I expect to see much airside action, as late afternoon is when I'll be flying in and out (a week later)?
Has YHZ been renovated extensively like most major Canadian airports?
