What years did CO utilize the 720 and were any painted with the 'meatball' livery? I can not seem to locate any of a 'meatballed' 720 (or any CO 720 photos for that matter) pics in the DB.

CO operated the 720B Fanjets from 1964/5?-1974. The Black contrail logo was introduced in 1968 and COs 720Bs had them painted as such during that year. i've seen several pics of their 720s in that scheme.

Thanks Dc863, I knew I remembered seeing CO's 720s with the meatball on the tail as a kid.

The 720Bs were actually used up to the first quarter of 1976.

Gee thanks. Now you've made me feel maudlin and nostalgic. When I was but a mere idiot of 17 I regularly went out to TUS to see the CO 720 arrive from PHX (or was it LAX) enroute to ELP, SAT and IAH at 0030. Now I'm an idiot of 45 and would not dream of driving 25 miles at O dark thirty to just look at an airplane on the ramp. I miss it.

But I bet I saw all the CO 720s  Smile/happy/getting dizzy No pictures though  Sad

Damn, this website is getting worse daily.

I flew on that bird from MKC-ORD in 1970... I remember being served a hot breakfast and listening to "spirit in the sky" on the inflight stereo. I looked out over the wing just in front of the engines. LOVED IT!

Looks like a 738 with four engines and a funny antennae on the tail....

Firings, if well done, are good for employee morale.
