I drove by few weeks ago and saw several people standing outside & watching the planes landing...so I think it's okay.

I was there yesterday soaking up a rare warm day. It was absolutely bustling with activity. I don't see how you can prevent people from stopping there when there is a major bike/rollerblade path that goes right through? I've never heard any rumours about closing off the area.

My dad told me about it while I was talking on the phone with him. They plan on closing Gravelly Point down by this summer. Pure nonsense bullshit. They think its a hazard to airplanes landing or takeoff off since it is close to distance to shoot down an airplane. Well, ANYWHERE is too close, not just public spotting areas. Not just shutting down Gravelly Point, but also BWI and other airports with outside viewings. INSANE!!!
I don't think they will close it down. Gravelly Point is TOO popular to shut it down and if they did close it down, well, the terrorist wins again! Otherwise, I'll be getting a petition going up if they were to close it down. Besides, I think the news is just pure bullshit information about aviation. That's why we have ANT--Aviation News TV.

I don't live very far from Gravelly Point and I go running and biking through it every few days. From what I hear, they may close the parking lot. However, there will still be a spectator area. The Mt. Vernon trail (a very popular running/bicycle trail) runs right through Gravelly Point. If they closed off Gravelly point completely, then they would have to sever the Mt. Vernon Trail. That would upset a lot of people and I don't see it happening.
