I'm travelling to Europe on QF5/17 from SYD-CDG on Wednesday and wondered if there was any change I'd make it onto a 744ER?

Any chance of that a/c type being put on that route the same time next year?

Regards,

I wouldn't worry about the 744ER ... a normal 744 will do you just fine ... just hope to god you don't get that dreadful BA reject VH-NLH or whatever its called.

I so look forward to your trip report QANTASFOREVER.

I thought that QF operated 747-300's from SYD to CDG?

I've only seen a 744 at CDG the last 2 times I was there in the last 6 months.

One shock you might get, if you haven't been to CDG before, is getting off a nice plane and walking into possibly the crappiest dingiest terminal in existence, CDG 1. It's truly an unpleasant experience, though worse if you are trying to leave from there. I don't know why they persist with this monstrousity or why the Star Alliance is so keen to make it "it's" terminal in Paris. Pity QF and the asian airlines don't fly into Terminal 2.

Just so you know.

Only if something goes horribly wrong elsewhere! The 6 744ER's are/will be in Pacific config and used exclusively on LAX routes as a general rule. You will more than likely be on one (well, two, with your transfer in SIN) of the newly reconfig'd 2 class 744's or one of the few 3 class 744's still left operating on 2 class routes.

The classics haven't been scheduled onto Europe trips in quite some time, although one of them will be doing some Rome trips in May according to the latest info I've seen.

NLH goes home for good in less than 3 weeks Qpower.

Well I certainly hope that is incorrect. I've payed for First class LOL.

I hope that LOL was not a serious one. Surely you jest, non? You're such a circus lately QForever !!  Big grin
Should be a nice trip from SIN at least.
Cheers.

Star alliance doesn't want to make CDG1 its terminal....they are pushed to it by Aeroport de Paris....
I know for sure UA has been asking for years to move to CDG2

QForever - your agent is talking through their lower posterior regions. QF haven't offered F fares or cabins of any sort on central Euro ports in some months now. A quick check of 5 and 17 this Wednesday show J and Y only, with no F cabin allocated - you can verify this yourself via the QF website, or checking the seat plan on "check your trip" on ITN. You may get lucky and get one, or maybe two, 3 class config'd craft on the route on that day, but QF offer only J and Y to PAR and it's mainly on a J and Y config'd 744 only. Even if you beat the odds and a 3 class is used on the route that day, the F seats normally go to high tier FF's booked in revenue J - with a J service only. The only way to get a definite guaranteed F seat to that part of the world on QF these days is to LHR.

I really thought you were joking. Have you not seen all the threads in here and other forums lately about the status of the 2 class 744 rollouts??

Al,

You are a lifesaver. I pressed my travel agent and confirmed that it is J and not P class. I managed to contact Qantas to ensure that Im not going to be charged for an upgrade that will never come! I swear I will never go back to Thomas Cook. We've got our two girls going with us and this chick didnt even book us seats with a basinette even after we told her we needed two! So luckily we got onto Air France and Qantas and fixed it all.

Oh boy, what a near miss! I sure owe you one.

She's kewl QForever. I honestly thought you were joking at all times, and still quite can't understand how the perception F seats were in the offing got through.
Checked with a mate yesterday - VH-OJA is currently scheduled to operate both 5 and 17 today and she is *definitely* a renconfigured 2 class 744. The new bassinet contraption in Row 1 Zone A looks quite good, but they may have put you in the bulkhead behind door 1 if you need two bassinets.
You'll probably end up being the only ones in that zone if they do do that. Small area, 2 rows only of J in a 2x3x2 setup, so it's either claustrophobic for you, or will be like an exclusive "Mr and Mrs QForever" space !! All you will be missing is the direct line to the cockpit - "Simon - Tahiti sounds nice".

[Said mate also says "cramped" to SIN but "space and space" from SIN.  Smile ]

Have a good one mate - just learn the phrase "I am not English, I am Australian" in French and even the locals will luv ya's !!!! LOL.

Al,

Am sitting in the Qantas lounge at YSSY and can confirm all that you said. We're booked into seats 23 A and 23 K but it looks like we've got the entire row 23 for SIN-CDG. Looks like a very full flight. I don't know anything about the load on our connection (AF7706 CDG - NCE) but it's such a short flight I don't really care. Because of my wheeling and dealing with the Qantas yesterday - when I arrived here at the lounge I was presented with a nice bottle of Frankland River Merlot for my troubles. So I'm smiling and the family are ready to go.

"Simon - Tahiti sounds nice".

hahahahahahahahahahaha. It sure does. After all, I'm off to visit my in-laws!

Have a good one mate - just learn the phrase "I am not English, I am Australian" in French and even the locals will luv ya's !!!! LOL.

En fait je parle français. Et: "Je ne suis pas britannique, américain ou canadien, je suis australien." Big grin

I might give an update on my flight when I land in SIN this evening. I'm quite enjoying this live interactive trip report.

It sounds more like the travel agent should be giving you free wine not Qantas, the 2 class 744 aircraft and routes have been made public for over a year now.
