Next week I have a three hour lay over in ATL during the afternoon. I have two questions. I am flying in and out on Air Tran, and I was wondering how easy it is to walk the airport in a few hours. I wondered with the underground situation how easy it is to get from one terminal building to the other.
Also, what large international carriers fly A340's, 747's, or tripple sevens into Atlanta????

Take a hike over to terminal E via the underground Train, at least there will be some interesting departure boards at the gates if not aircraft to go with them. Maybe some interesting people as well!

I beleive theres a Lufthansa A340 that leaves around 4 pm daily, and some BA/AF flights, but last i noticed they were 767. The only pax 747 in is South African in the morning. Otherwise, mostly u get Delta MD-11,777, and 767 int'l. Perhaps you cna walk over and check the Hooters Air plane or the occasional World MD-11/DC-10 or ATA L-1011 doing military stuff.
But mostly, its all Big D and Airtran. Getting from Term C to anywhere is pretty easy. Train rides from concourse to concourse are quick. I highly recommend NOT exiting the security area, plenty of overpriced vending inside, especially Term A, B and E.
