America West Announces New Nonstop Service Between Its Phoenix Hub and Cancun, Mexico


Hometown Airline to Provide the Only Daily Nonstop Service Between Phoenix and Cancun - The Airline's 11th Destination in Mexico

PHOENIX, March 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA), the nation's second largest low-fare carrier, announced today that it will initiate new daily, nonstop service between its Phoenix hub and Cancun, Mexico, on June 1, 2003. Customers in Phoenix and 12 other cities in the western U.S. will be able to take advantage of this new service to enjoy the powdery sand beaches, warm blue water, sensational shopping, sport fishing, snorkeling and diving available in this beautiful Caribbean city.

"America West is pleased to add Cancun to our impressive portfolio of nonstop flights from Phoenix to Mexican beach and business communities. Cancun is a natural fit for us and provides our customers another luxurious and beautiful vacation destination," said Dion Flannery, vice president, scheduling and route planning. "America West Vacations is putting together some unbeatable package deals to Cancun and the Riviera Maya so customers can simplify their vacation planning with one visit to americawestvacations.com." Details of America West Vacations' packages are outlined in a separate press release issued today.

America West currently provides extensive service to cities along Mexico's Pacific Coast including Guaymas, Mazatlan, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and Acapulco as well as major business destinations including Hermosillo, Guadalajara and Mexico City.

"Customers have been requesting service to Mexico's Caribbean coast and we're happy to be able to expand our service at this time," added Flannery.

America West will utilize the Airbus A319 aircraft featuring 12 first class and 112 main cabin seats for this service. It seems in the last year there have been announcements for service to Cancun.

I believe UAL has or is starting service to Cancun?
Isn't NWA flying to Cancun shortly?

Yes, NWA is already operate nonstop from DTW-CUN flight and no, UAL doesn't have used flying to Mexico before either. This is currently some of the airlines flies to CUN is: AA, AS, F9, CO, DL, NW, US, TZ. Well, this is it for your helps. Thanks!

11 destinations in Mexico is pretty impressive. Can anyone provide the flight days and equipment they use for each route? Also, do they serve food on their international flights, or just peanuts like they do on their domestic services?
