Star Alliance In Trouple?

With United bankrupt, Air New Zealand possibly going to Qantas, and plans for a Star Alliance Terminal at Heathrow all on hold, I'm wondering if it's going to survive.

Also, I noticed that the Star Alliance Ticket Office in London has been closed. It was a combined ticket office for United, Lufthansa, Thai, Varig, Air Canada, and Singapore Airlines, and was modern and cool and always busy. All that remains are signs indicating that Air Canada, Varig and United ticket offices are now at Heathrow, Thai still maintains it own office a few blocks away, and that a new Singapore Airlines office will be opening shortly. Nothing about LH.

yes,yes the once shining star could be gone in a year. That's my opinion.
UAL is facing court, RG is doing....whatever,but if a major airline get's it's plane seized it pretty obvious that tey are in trouble, althought 'they just have some problems with the leasing companies'. With these two eventually gone the americas-market(USA-and South America), with the exception of Mexciana is gone. RG could be substiuted with TAM, although I don't know about their situation in depth (merger with RG?!). I don't think the whole US market can be carried out by AC, so there has to be a new partner, which might has to be snatched away from another alliance, which could be done by LH (now definetly leading the rat-pack) and their better economic biz-plans(...by now). The only one I can think of by now is CO......who knows what's gonna come!

Yesterday I was chatting with some people at LH and they were saying that there are some "rumors" ( and let's just take them for that" that Star was interested in approaching Qantas.

That would be interesting...basically it could detonate an avalanche effect with AA leaving etc etc etc

Hmmm...AA leaving, based on the rumours in the banking market, AA seems to be heading into another sort of trouble, that is, Chapter 11! There are rumours that say that AA management is already re-negotiating credit facilities under a chapter 11 scenario.
As I said: Rumours!
Under the assumption of such a scenario an approach to Qantas makes sense, BA shareholding notwithstanding, they don't have a voting majority afaik (correct me if I'm wrong).
As for the original question: yes, sort of, but these problems seem to be solvable, if not by new full-scale members then by cooperations with American carriers. LH is sort of an expert on these alliances!
And given the fact, that AA does have serious problems, I don't exactly see other carriers run into the Oneworld-direction either!

If anything, it seems that these large alliances are fleeting things at best. With the inherent instability in the airline industry, it is looking like any large scale alliance has no more than a 5 year lifespan before things get shaken up.

oz777 knows more about this than i do but ba do have at least 2 directors on the board, have the power of a veto and also appoint the chairmen, chief exc and finance directors, therefore they have de facto control on the qantas board.if anything anz will be in one world.

From what I find it's a sub 22% shareholding, and there are two non-exec directors on the board. With 22% alone you have by no means the chance to control that company...that's why BA does not consolidate Qantas.
Of course I stand corrected, if there are shareholder alliances or something like that; it was just a short visit on the Qantas website, but that seems to be a problem that can be solved. In the end, the Qantas board is interested in one thing: make money, and they seem to be doing quite well lately. If they find Star a better way to ensure future cashflow, they'll change sides, of that I'm pretty sure!
But this is the future and I have no idea what will be...just a scenario and LH management proved in the last 10 years that they have pretty good idea about the direction aviation is heading!

The *alliance has already said they would approach QF. But i cant see QF divourcing BA & AA. BA has just sent all its Australasian Exec Club members over to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program recently.

But then again many people said AN would never go down.

UNITED And US AIRWAYS will be in the STAR next year, AA will lose the most through all of this. The STAR will be fine, UAL is already moving forward.
