Does anyone know l'Arc-en-ciel? It was an three-engine aircraft designed in the early 30's by French engineer René Couzinet with his pilot friend Jean Mermoz. Mermoz flew the aircraft in 1933 from Paris Le Bourget to Senegal (Africa) before commencing his South Atlantic crossing to Brazil. The overwater flight took him 14 or 15 hours. He pursued his trip further down to Argentina before returing to Africa. While navigating overwater on his way back to Africa, he experienced an engine failure at about 500NM before reaching destination but he completed his trip successfully.
