According to a Chinese news report by Xinhua News Agency, chief of Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC)'s HK/Macao/Taiwan Affairs Department publicly acknowledged that consider the current situation in Middle East region, China welcomes Taiwanese carriers to overfly its airspace with approved permissions and China will be trying to provide the best possible services of air control and other required aspects to Taiwanese airlines. For those carriers which want to overfly Chinese airspace, please submit detailed applications to the relevant authorities in Chinese mainland as early as possible.

Interesting move, and if honest (what restrictions and conditions apply, etc?) a welcome one in PRC/ROC relations.
I wonder though which routes that normally overfly the ME from the ROC would be economical to reroute through the PRC rather than across the Red Sea or Nepal and Russia.

It would be a large benefit to Taiwan-Europe nonstops, which now have to go through the Gulf region, or northward through Russia. The lack of access to PRC airspace is why you don't see much Taiwan-Europe nonstops.
Will this be a permanent move? First the New Year charters and now this, hope things get better.

Confirmed news report from People's Daily Online of China:
CAAC Invites Taiwan Airlines to Use Emergency Air Routes
The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) Friday issued a statement saying it welcomes Taiwanese airlines, if necessary, to make emergency use of air routes China has opened to central Asia and Europe.
A senior official of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office under the administration said in the statement that the United States and some other countries launched military actions against Iraq on March 20. For the sake of the safety of civil flights, CAAC welcomes Taiwanese airlines to make emergency use of air routes the mainland has opened to central Asia and Europe, if necessary.
The official added the relevant departments on the mainland are willing to provide safe and high quality aviation services for Taiwanese aircraft.
He urged Taiwan airlines to make applications to the aviation departments on the mainland as soon as possible.
