Hi all... just checking out flight tracker and noticed that flight 48 had some weird timing. here it is:

Depart Orlando: 12:25pm
Actual Depart: 2:06pm

Arrive JFK: 2:45pm
Actual Arrive: 6:54pm

This flight is about 2h 10, not nearly 5 hours. Can anybody explain what was going on that would cause them an extra THREE hours airborne?

Thanks,
JBLU

Sometimes the actual departure time posted may just be from the gate. It may have had an ATC ground hold in MCO before it actually departed.

weather related perhaps?

Orlando, although this time of season is a little early, is known for afternoon thunderstorms.

There was quite a storm system going through areas in between MCO and JFK today too, we had some pretty strong thunderstorms in Detroit last night. Perhaps the plane steered clear around the storms

Same can apply for arrival. Typical flight statistics reported are only half the story.

OUT - When the aircraft leaves the gate.
OFF - When the aircraft is off the ground.
ON - When the aicraft touches down.
IN - When the aircraft is in the gate.

JFK had some bad weather today. I was listening to the live Tower ATC freq. on the web. They had fog with thunderstorms in the area (what a combination). For a time I think JFK had a RVR of like 1,400 ft. I heard quite a few JetBlue flights, some which had to be diverted.

Check out what fytecomm.com says, however:

Looks like it was diverted to Baltimore. Their software seems to be a little confused too. A few different flight plans filed a guess.

Yea we had severe thunderstorms in the area (one produced golf ball sized hail in NJ). Visibility was less than 1000' feet for a period, as you couldn't even make out the observation deck of the ESB for a time.
