The Dutch airline are adding Kathmandu to their network in October if all goes well, service will be with a 757-200 routed Ameterdam-Sharjah-Kathmandu, in December it will be upgraded to a 767-300. Courtesy justplanes.com.

I believe that they are simply replacing the current Transavia service on the same route.

Quite likely. HV is cutting regular routes to go mainly lowcost and charter with those routes going to KLM and MP (with KLM getting the best ones of course).

A factor is also HV ditching their 757s this year. I already wondered if HV would continue the Kathmandu flights with their 738s now. AMS-SHJ is just within the range of their 738s but might seem marketingwise a bit smallish for longhaul use.

nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

100% correct. Given that the route generates a lot of transfer pax (at least according to Transavia) it was either KLM or Martinair who would have started Amsterdam - Khatmandu. Given that Khatmandu is a low yield market (mainly tourists) it's not strange the route will be served by Martinair.

The route will be served weekly on Mondays (first flight October 8th with B757 and from December 22nd the B767 will take over untill April).

BTW does anyone know if Martinair will also get the Colombo charter?
