We have received word through the grapevine that Hawaiian will cease operations completely later today. Can anyone confirm the latest? I've been unable to find any reference to this on the Internet.

Where did you hear that? That's absolutely untrue.

As I write this, ASD shows 8 HAL flights airborne, and they all look like normal flights without the oddball flight numbers you'd expect to see with positioning ferries.

Of course it's not true. The local media would have jumped on that news. The only thing that has ceased is the trading of HA's stock until at least mid-April pending a review by the AMEX.

That is a very nasty rumor, something which can cause fear and the end result is people not booking. HA Had some flight cancellations today due to mechanicals. I am looking forward to meeting HA34 in LAS tomorrow morning !!

I did read I think earilyer this week in the USA Today that there is a chance Hawiian could go out, but not until the end of the year. I do this: like UAL, AMR and most airlines, Hawiian is loosing money!

I can see the HNL runways from my office downtown. They're still flying.

Not a Chance!!!!!!!
It's sad when rumors like this get started. It affects a lot of things at the airline. We're in bankruptcy to get the lease rates down on our planes. That's it. We should have the new leases negotiated by the end of April, and be out of bankruptcy by fall.
Fun rumors are one thing. Nasty ones should be avoided.

Also - TG992, could you let us know where you got that rumor? Possibly an Aloha pilot??

HAL - The rumour came from another source within the company I work for, who had doubtless got it from someone outside the airline.
I'm sure everyone realises I was seeking clarification and confirmation that it was a rumour, and am grateful that noone in the 16-20 a.net agegroup has jumped in and bashed me for being malicious and a liar
What a wonderful resource this site is - within 3 hours of my initial query being posted, it was comprehensively answered by an aircraft dispatcher, a HNL based consultant, and an HAL pilot. This is the internet at it's best, people!!
