DL Using MD-11 ATL-MUC

I just had a friend ask me what kind of plan he will be flying on in May from ATL-MUC. I instinctively said a 767-300 because thats what it has been for about 6 years. But then when I double checked, I saw it was really an MD-11. When did/will this change take place? And can anyone from there get a picture of this? Thanks.

It's not unusual to switch plane on a route.
For example Delta will use an MD-11 instead of a 767 on its Venice-New York route next summer and a 777 instead of a 767 from Rome to Atlanta.

ATL-MUC is supposed to be an MD-11 from May 2 to August 1, then back to 763. DL had planned double daily ATL-MUC for this summer, but economical and other problems forced DL to "downgrade" it to an MD-11

Atlanta - Rome (DL70) will be a 777 over the summer. I assume due to enhanced traffic from Alitalia joining Skyteam?

Think about it, DL will [relatively] soon have only five 772ERs for TransAtlantic runs..... how on Earth could they serve CDG, LGW, MAN, FRA, and FCO from up to 4 international gateways with so few aircraft?

MAN is going down to 763 for some reason this summer. It was originally thought the MAN-ATL was going to 2 x Daily 763, but alas this hasnt happened.

Unfortunatley, MAN is loosing it's 777 service (again!). And they appear to be a rarer sight at LGW these days too.

Oh well, I'll just stick to bmi as long as I can  Smile/happy/getting dizzy.
