A 24 year old man was charged for ringing 999 in SIngapore and saying that a friend, "who is a JI member" (referring to Jeremaah Islamiaah who wanted to crash an SIA plane into SIN's control tower last year), had planted a bomb on SQ998.
Singapore Airlines Limited confirmed the SQ998 departing at 2315 on 28 March 2003 was delayed for three hours.
The Singapore Police say that bomb hoaxes cause distress and are a waste of resources. The penalty for this is a fine of S$50 000 / US$25255 and/or seven years in jail.
