#Dusseldorf (DUS) is a new route starting this summer
%Friday service to Dammam is summer seasonal only

Highlights
- New service to Dusseldorf (DUS) operating on Wednesdays on A330-200s.
- Abu Dhabi (AUH) increasing from 4x weekly to daily.
- Dammam (DMM) increasing from 2x weekly to 3x weekly.
- Frankfurt (FRA) increasing from 3x weekly to 4x weekly.
- Istanbul (IST) increasing from 3x weekly to 4x weekly.
- London (LHR) increasing from 5x weekly to daily.
- Daily Air France service upgraded from a mix of A330s, A340s, and 777s to daily 777 service.
- New summer seasonal Air France Thursday service on 747-400s.
- Routes operated on A300s and A310s will be replaced with A330-200s.

In 1998 MEA and Air France formed an alliance. As a result of this alliance, there are 3 daily flights between Paris (CDG) and Beirut (BEY) year-round. This alliance allows MEA passengers to connect on Air France flights to North America, Central America, and South America.

MEA currently has a fleet of 1 A300-600R, 3 A310-200s, 3 A320-200s, and 2 A321-200s. Last year, MEA placed an order for 6 A321-200s and 3 A330-200s. The 3 A330-200s will replace the single A300-600R, and 2 of the 3 A310-200s. The 6 A321-200s will replace the 3rd A310-200, the 3 A320-200s, and the 2 A321-100s.

The 6 A321-200s will be owned by MEA while the 3 A330-200s will be leased from ILFC.

The new A321s and A330s will be equipped with PTVs in every seat with multiple channels in both Front and Economy Classes.

Regards

Hi BA

Great to see MEA is adding new destinations & increasing a number of frequenices.

I will be much more happier when they return to Australia or at least some physical presence in Asia (excluding the MAS codeshare from Sydney to Beirut) to cater for the large amount of passengers now flying either Emirates or Malaysian into Beirut.

I will be in Beirut in May so I will try & take a few pics of their new aircraft interiors.

I myself do wonder whether they will return to Sydney or not. The code-share with MAS ended after MAS suspended service to BEY after 9/11. After they restarted the service, the code-share agreement didn't restart.

As for Sao Paulo, the strong alliance with Air France was created to give MEA passengers connections to North America and South America. That's why CDG is served more than any other MEA destination. But you never know....

I would like to see MEA expand Africa service and add ZRH, AMS, MAD, and BRU.

Supposidly, they plan to add a couple new cities in 2004. Perhaps we will see a new aircraft order in 2004 as well?

Regards

I think they did BEY-KUL 3 x week - joint service with MH (2x with MH, 1 x with ME B747 continuing on to SYD). don't know when they stopped though...

that's great news....

I hope MEA will consider other European airports in the near future if they want to expand any further.....

Like AMS, There is nothing wrong with some competition on some routes dominated by KLM.....some Middle East destinations in particular.....

The MAS code-share ended after MAS suspended service to BEY after 9/11. Then last April, MAS restarted the route, but the code-share agreement was never revived.

Was the MAS service to BEY non-stop? Currently the 2x weekly MAS service to KUL is with a stop in DXB.

FLYYUL,

I can tell you that between 1983 and 1985, MEA flew to JFK via CDG 3x weekly on 747-200s.

I know that in the recent past, they have been wanting to return to the US, but since the alliance with Air France was formed, I think they have decided to focus on the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

Now that doesn't mean they won't ever serve North America. If they do decide to enter the North American market, I am sure YUL will be high on there list because of the large Lebanese population.

I think we will see MEA expand into Asia before crossing the big blue ocean again.

Regards

Anyone think MEA will return to flying BEY-KUL-SYD?

I think if they decide to step into an entirely new continent, it would be BEY-KUL-SYD.
