This is great move for Delta Connection make returns to MSY and I know remember that one of Comair been service nonstop to MSY from years ago and least thing to do for CRJ aircraft. Let says welcome back for Delta connection to MSY again.

now if they (DL) would just put back LAX,JFK,SLC,LAS,TPA,PNS we'd be in great shape. to bad that won't happen. surely i thought at least 1 SLC flight would stay. i remember when they flew that thing using 767's. i used to fly it quite a bit out west. i love delta but they just piss me off.

I flew to SLC on a 757 and it was packed to the gills. It still baffles me that they cancelled BOTH SLC nonstops, they were popular. You don't just cancel BOTH flights (1 was 727 and 1 a 757 when it ended) without downgrading it or something. Delta employees here still question that move, they have told me the SLC flights were successful. And yeah, the 762 flew that route for maybe a year or so....I remember seeing it. Oh well. At least we got MCO back.....LGA would be really nice!

I don't think you'll ever see DL fly PNS-MSY again. That route was merely a tag off the DFW-MSY route with very little local traffic. PNS now has 4 daily flights to DFW on RJ's, so the stop in MSY is unnecessary. USExpress used to fly PNS-MSY with BE1900's and even that has been cancelled.
As for other new routes out of MSY for DL, I don't think you'll see too much. MSY-LAS is very low-yield and would likely only be viable with Song. MSY-SLC is also low-yielding and does damage to DFW. The only way I see MSY-SLC coming back is if DL gets a 100 seat mainline plane capable of covering that distance. This could happen but it will be 3-5 years down the road.
DL has largely given up on LAX so MSY-LAX isn't really viable.
MSY-JFK could come back if DL is able to rebuild JFK. DL is trying to rebuild the feed to JFK...recent additions of IND and CMH. Plus, DL wants to make life at JFK hard for JBLU. I could even see DL running 1-2x daily JFK-MSY on Song if things really rebound.
MSY-TPA could come back as a Chautauqua RJ route. DL is pushing to expand in Florida, so adding MSY-TPA might help. However, it seems the bulk of DL's focus will be on FLL/PBI and MCO.
Unfortunately, any mainline expansion by DL anywhere in the next year or two is unlikely, seeing how DL has no mainline planes due for delivery.

FlyPNS1, remember the 2 daily M90's that DL flew PNS-MSY back in 97/98? It went down to one a few years back. I'll never forget the first time I saw the timetable that had those flights listed in there...I'm pretty sure I said something like "what the heck are they thinking?"
It was really cool seeing those M90's on the MSY-PNS flight #1436 use only like 2500 ft. of runway and shoot up like a rocket. We still have one M90 to DFW, but it leaves at 7:00am so I don't see that one too often.
I could see MSY-JFK again with Song at some point.

Any ideas how long CHQ has been flying through the DFW hub? Noticed one of their ERJs flying OKC-DFW (5 minutes after an ASA EM2 LOL).
Still waiting to see what DCI does up here in Toledo...CR7s pulled out for this month, but will be back in May it seems, and still some word that they are trying to get MCO started. Loads so far are still the strongest on DL, so hopefully they realize this and will keep pounding the competition.

I noticed about a month ago that Chautauqua was running 145s from DFW to ICT, OKC, and PNS. Are there any other cities (besides CMH) that Chautauqua is going to run the 145s to? Speaking of DFW, are there any new routes that Skywest will be flying in the near future? Haven't heard much out of them lately.

CHQ only started flying into DFW very recently, like the last month. All of the flights come from our hub in CMH. The aircraft fly from CMH to DFW then on to OKC ICT ELP PNS and now MSY. I suspect the New Orlreans service will allow CHQ to bring more ERJ's through from MCO. I am bidding for the MCO base, I am glad to hear they are starting service to MSY, my Dad lives there and commuting to visit him will now be a snap! Now if only they start service to TUL.....

As far as I was aware, CHQ wasn't supposed to start the OKC-DFW route till later this month, however things may have changed.
I know that CHQ is supposed to use MSY as a way to move EMB145 crews between the DFW hub and the MCO base (which is where the bulk of CHQ's operations will be concentrated). PNS will serve as the connection point for the EMB135's moving between DFW and MCO starting in June.
DL seems to be shuffling the Connection carriers all over the place in DFW. For example in PNS, we will lose Comair to MCO (replaced by CHQ) and we will lose SkyWest to DFW (again replaced by CHQ). We will still keep one ASA flight to DFW, too.
I don't know of any new routes that SkyWest will be picking up. They aren't receiving planes for DL as fast as Comair,ASA and CHQ are. I think you'll primarily see SkyWest just being used to help replace the last few EMB120's which are supposed to be out of DFW by the end of summer. SkyWest isn't really growing at all in SLC. In fact, they dumped SLC-ELP and SLC-DSM..plus Comair picked up one of the SLC-RNO runs.
