Can anyone here elaborate on US domestic F Class meal standards for every major airline? Continental is the only one that features this on their website, and in my opinion they have done a good job in keeping to their promises.
What about other airlines? I don't expect much from AA & UA considering their financial situation, and there's probably no standard set whatsoever. From reading the trip reports here and at flyertalk, it seems like both airlines serve meals on F Class of over 2 hours, but then there is really no standard as to what they do. I believe standardization also helps bring down the cost as it allows the airline to place orders at cost in bulk.
I'm very interested about NW F Class, and since they don't really have true transcon flights (DTW - West Coast comes close), maybe someone could explain their meal standards on MSP - East/West Coast, especially on flights that average 2.5 - 3.5 hours. Maybe some FA's here may be able to provide some insight.......???

(1) Beverages and Munchies
For First Class and Economy Class
Flights less than 1 hour
Beverages are served.
Flights 1 - 1 1/2 hours
Beverages are served. Munchies are offered in First Class on flights before 10:00 a.m. and are offered in both First and Economy class on flights after 10:00 a.m.
Flights over 1 1/2 hours for First Class and over 2 hours for Economy Class
Beverages and a complimentary meal or snack are offered on segments during appropriate meal or snack periods.
(2) Meals and Snacks
Meals and snacks are served on flights over 1½ hours for First Class and over 2 hours for Economy Class.
Flights 1 1/2 - 2 hours
First Class: Complimentary beverages and a continental snack will be offered for Breakfast. During the traditional Lunch/Dinner hours, a cold snack will be offered.
Economy Class: Beverages and a continental snack will be offered for Breakfast. During the traditional Lunch/Dinner hours, beverages and munchies will be offered.
Flights over 2 hours
First Class: Beverages and a hot or cold choice of entrée will be offered for Breakfast and a hot choice of entrée for Lunch and Dinner.
Economy Class: Beverages and a cold breakfast snack will be offered for Breakfast. A fresh cold sandwich snack will be offered for Lunch and Dinner.
Flights over 3 1/2 hours
First Class: Beverages and a hot or cold choice of entrée will be offered for Breakfast and a hot choice of entrée for Lunch and Dinner. Fresh baked-on-board cookies are included with Breakfast Lunch. Ice cream with your choice of toppings is included with Dinner.
Economy Class: Beverages and a snack basket containing cold breakfast items will be offered for Breakfast. A fresh hot sandwich snack basket will be offered for Lunch or Dinner.
(3) Light Snack
If your flight is not during the scheduled Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner hours, a light snack may be offered.
First Class
On flights over two hours between 5:00 a.m. and 7:59 p.m.
On flights over three hours between 8:00 p.m. and 4:59 a.m.
Economy Class
On flights over three hours between 5:00 a.m. and 9:29 a.m.
On flights over three hours between 9:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

ON HP first , witch i fly quite frequently, have fantastic Dinner services. Im not sure on the flight length and stuff though. witch consist of a salad, with hot bread, and the main meal witch has a choice most of the time from steak and meat to pasta. they have a fantastic wine selection as well. They have menus and everything for dinner. For lunch, there services r mediocore. Most of the time you get a sandwitch iof some sort, and a side salad. I really enjoy there breakfest though, you get a plate of mixed fruit, followed by a hot breakfest sandwitch. i really enjoy tyhere food, it is all served on china, with silver spoons and forks. they also have glass glasses, and glass wine glasses. I think there presentation is great. I think the food taste fantastic, i just wish they did a little more with lunch.

To comment on United, what I'm hearing and seeing is this:
Premium Transcons: Hot meals
Other 2hrs+ Flights: Deli plate (ie, "Make your own sandwich") or a Salad.
No doubt, that's QUITE oversimplified, but I sense that that's the way United's moving at the moment.

I remember flying NW F class HNL-SFO a couple of times and I must say that apart aside from the tropical rum drink served at boarding and the rationed foccacia roll (1 per pax) that was decent, the meal service was completely forgettable.
I remember UA F class between the two cities and the meal service was much better- ice cream sundaes and a salad trolley service which featured an amazing Japanese Shiso dressing. I was even given a bottle of California "champagne" that was discreetly covered with a linen napkin. Those were the days when United's inflight service were compatible with Asian airlines.

Thanks for the information. I'm flying upgraded first class on United tomorrow from ORD to SEA and SEA to ANC. I'm supposed to get lunch and a snack. Does anybody know what I'll get?

I can now answer the question concerning United. I just flew first class from ORD to SEA and SEA to ANC. On the first flight, we were offered a turkey deli plate or a chef's salad. We had a cookie for dessert. On the second flight, we were given a plate of cold cuts and a big roll.
