Apologies if this has already been reported  Smile

According to the Qatart Airways website, the airline will add flights from Doha to both Seoul and Shanghai from June 25th.

Will the flights be combined or are they seperate routings?

regards

Mike

The flights will operate Doha - Shanghai - Seoul twice a week and Doha - Shanghai turnaround once a week. I don't know if the flight will be affected by SARS or not?

Qatar Airways new destinations for the 2003 Summer season are:

- Kochi (A320/A300)
- Islamabad (A300)
- Manchester (A300)
- Shanghai (A330)
- Seoul (A330)
- Rome (A300)
- Tripoli (A319CJ)
- Moscow (A319CJ)

There will be 4 more destinations which QR will add before the end of the year.

Those A319s they recently received is a normal A319 with extra range, thats all right? Then why is it A319CJ? Does it mean those CJ ones can easily be converted to a CJ or is it specially configured?

Unlike the BBJ 1, which has a B737-800 wing mounted on a -700 fuselage and therefore is a very specific type on its own, the A319CJ can be easily converted into a regular A319 with extra range provided by the ACT(s). It's just a matter of replacing the VIP or corporate (up to 58 passengers - business seats) interior with regular seats.

The idea of Airbus was to retain as much commonality as possible between the A319CJ and the A319 to keep a high residual value to the aircraft.

So basically those A319s of QR (excluding the sole A319CJ in VIP layout) are normal A319s?

Qatar Airways is now one of few airlines that have fifth freedom rights out of China. The others are:

PIA: KHI-BJS-NRT-BJS-KHI

Iran Air: TEH-BJS-ICN-BJS-TEH

Singapore Airlines Cargo: SIN-XMN-Nanjing-ORD (not sure of the return routing as it’s via Europe)

I question Qatar's intent to commence DOH-PVG direct at this time, considering the SARS outbreak in China. I think a few cases have been reported in Shanghai but it's likely that the Chinese government is under-reporting the actual number of cases there, but as it's a 1x weekly flight, I think they should do okay on that route. Maybe they could’ve added a 3rd weekly DOH-PVG-ICN-PVG-DOH flight instead?

Great news for PVG, it’s growing fast as a major hub.

"Iran Air: TEH-BJS-ICN-BJS-TEH"

Fuck, I meant:

Iran Air: THR-BJS-ICN-BJS-THR

Got the airport code for Tehran wrong.

Airbus Lover,

Yes, the A319CJ is basically a regular A319 fitted with one (standard, as far as I remember) or two ACTs (optional) and a specific VIP or "Shuttle/Corporate" interior.

Replace this interior with regular seats and galleys and you get a longer-range A319 accommodating 124 passengers in a standard two-class-layout or 145 in an all-economy configuration.
