The CX schedules show that for the rest of this week 34C will be used for the SFO run... no longer sustainable for CX to put a 744 on this route, or is this temporary due to Sars?

from what I've been able to gather, the primary reason they sent the yucky A346 to SFO is because none of their even-yuckier available A343s have the now-required armored cockpit doors.

I think this may be the first time SFO has gotten an A340-600 in revenue service!  Smile The A346 has visited SFO a couple of times in the past but that was the test flights on behalf of LH using one of the test A346's (F-WWCC) in the spring of 2002.

Concordeboy, what are you talking about? It's not because of the security. I'm 100% sure.

headsup posted at flyertalk which stated that an A346 would visit SFO for 1 day... when asked why it was used as opposed to an A343 (which one res/tracking system showed), the explanation given was that it had its door security whereas the available A343 did not. If that's incorrect, dont kill the messenger.

CX773...... Thank you for the heads up, you made my day. I'm sitting here in my office staring at B-HQA at A-11.......and WOW. Now I see what the hoop-la was all about. Impressive size to say the least. I joined Airliners.net net today just to throw in my 2 cents! I was very excited to get this visit by the A346, I stopped TZSFO to tell him!

All aircraft flying from Asia to USA must have the new cockpit door system fitted.

B-HXD was due to operate sector but went technical before departure. Only other type available with Door modification fitted was 346.

Note. Over half the 343 aircraft do have new cockpit doors fitted

Looks like SFO is a A343 for the forseeable future looking at the Schedules!

Seems like some of the 744's are unemployed quite often at the moment! Hope for the best for the people of Hong Kong and Cathay Pacific!

Rumor.....and only rumor is this is not the last time we will see the A346 in SFO. CX and the airport had the plane towed to gate A-9 for fitting. This was due to CX saying there was a good chance of more! Lets see if I can dig up more info...........

this is really a big rumor. there's no reason for A346 to fly SFO in the near future. on 14apr, it's A346 because the scheduled A343 had a technical problem.
