I commute on SW on a weekly basis and many of those flights are on the -500. I've noticed that not a single one of their -500's have been repainted on the outside, or redone on the inside. Is this because WN is planning on dropping the -500's or have they just not reached their D-check status yet?

I think it's that they haven't reached their D-check yet. Southwest certainly doesn't have replacements ordered. They'll eventually sell them to NW to replace the DC-9's

I doubt the SWA 737-500's fleet will be going anywhere soon. Afterall the carrier still operates nearly 25 older B737-200's.

Try the shortest haul routes, Foxecho. We usually don't see them here at KCLE any more either.
The -500s are relatively new and I think WN will keep them for quite a while!

The 735s are not going anywhere - as mentioned, the remaining 732s will leave the Southwest fleet first, followed by some of the 733s that Southwest picked up second hand or through the Morris Air deal.
Southwest is repainting its fleet with the blue color scheme as the aircraft are due for a paint job/D check - I guess none of the 735s have been scheduled yet.

The -735s were acquired between Feb 1990 and May 1992 so they are not that old. They will probably be around for another 10 years or so.

WN was using a 735 on one of the two PHX-MSY nonstops for a while (about a 3 hour flight), before they replaced it with a 733 recently. Currently, I know of only one 735 flight from here...the 745am arrival from DAL, and it continues at 8:10am to BHM and BWI...different flight # of course.
Don't forget, there is one 735 that is not in the old brown colors...Shamu! That's always a great sight to see.

Actually, there's two. N501SW is Shamu III and N507SW is Shamu II
