Terror Level Reduced: Time To Open Spotter Areas!

Now that the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security has reduced the terror threat level from orange to yellow, it is now time to re-open the spotter/airport observation areas that have been closed across the country. If it is necessary to increase security when the threat goes up, it is also necessary to reduce security when the threat is less. If this doesn't occur, we run the path of becoming a police state. I will be writing letters to leaders in Houston because I want the Rankin and Lee Rd. spotter areas reopened at IAH. I hope everyone else contacts their leaders.

There are far more important things to worry about than this.
Put it in perspective.

In all honesty I don't think much is going to change, at least in the next few days. Since we're still in Iraq, a "valid" excuse still exists for all the Kojak-wannabe airport cops to go throwing their weight where they shouldn't.

Hopefully the LHR viewing deck will be up and running before the Easter Holidays are over! If that happens, that'll be so cool!

Jhooper,

That's great, great news. Thank you for the update it is much appreciated. I hope you get the areas at your local airport reopened soon.

Hopefully the National Guard will now take their Humvees home and disappear from LAX.

Greg,

What could possibly be more important than spotting and taking photos of airliners?????

My priorities are completely in prospective.

Then again, a sudden increase in the number of strangers hanging around airport perimeters might raise the alert level again!  Smile

Do you honestly think they are going to reopen these areas. Terrorists are here to stay and airport viewing areas are security areas that need and require constant monitoring...........leave them closed and you reduce the cost of having to have them supervised and security controlled. In the US i think there days are numbered.

At least at MCO we have the top of the carpark to go to only after registering with the Airport Authority. And FLL is a 3 hour drive from here. JAX is a 2 hour drive and living in the flight path to OCF there is only small GA aircraft that fly in.

Amsterdams observation deck was closed?

They didn't close any spotting areas in Canada.

Amsterdam? Why?

Ya,

That QF707 is quite a site. Too bad he does not land it there. He keeps his other planes there tho. All though we have had a couple of JT registered a/c at OCF.

DeltAirlines,

How far from MCO do you live. As well as SFB. I work at SFB for Avion Jet center, if you wanted to meet and go to MCO on SAT or SUN. Unless you want to meet on Fri afternoon. I get off work at around 1430-1500. All depends on whats going on.

I'm flying in tonight and staying at the Marriott World Centre on International Drive until Sunday. The people I'm travelling with want to go to Universal on Saturday and Disney on Sunday (for the parade), so those days are pretty much out. I don't really know how far it would be to get to either SFB or MCO from the Marriott, but I will try to consider it. I'll probably let you know later tonight if I can do it.

Just drove by FLL. As of 9am 17Apr viewing area is still closed off with
concrete blocks blocking access to the area from Perimeter road.
