For the passed week i have been in total denial, when i found out that management in JAT Airways are proposing a rebrand and logo change. Sure the airline has improved a lot in the last two years, becoming very well respected and favored amongst its flyers. Me being one of them. I absolutely love the current logo. Its appealing, elegant, and can be spotted a mile away!
Though this project is a really cool, i truely hope that they dont scrap the logo. I agree that some livery modifications are necessary. I originally proposed that the engines should be painted blue, and changes should be made to either the belly or the back third of the aircraft (as is the case with Malev from Hungary). Nevertheless, the current livery is stunning.

I hope they change it into something TOTALLY new. The JAT egg reminds us of the glory days of JAT (mainly the 80s), the thing now reminds us of the crazy, unpredictable 90s and whatever they choose now should set the tone for the next 10 years. Personally, I think its a great idea. Simply adding "Airways" would be going half-way and would seem kind of cheap.

So would you want 'em to drop the "JAT" as well, then, and change it all (and maybe you'd want to re-register with another moniker while you're at it )

Alex,
Perhaps you are right, but the current logo is very nice. Maybe I am hesitant to change. Perhaps the next proposed livery will be better. After removing the Yugoslav Airlines titles, I feel the aircraft will be too white. I agree that they require more inventive color. Blue would take highest preference, as it is our primary (national) color.
I do possess confidence and support of the current management in the company, since they have truly done a fantastic job for the most part. I trust that they will select something fresh, modern, and representative of a fresh beginning for JAT and for Serbia. From all this I see one positive thing: while so many airlines are struggling to survive, the new JAT is cruising to higher altitudes from one season to the next
BTW, did you see the proposition for the Bulgarian airline carrier. Its an absolute disaster. Apparently it was selected by a group of Bulgarian artists. Some Bulgarians I have spoken with were in disbelief by the poor judgment.

JU101--The name is there to stay. I doubt that anyone would be stupid enough to get rid of the name JAT.
Milane, I just was wondering how far JAT (Alex) was willing to go with changing things

The Bulgarian thing is quite creative at the front with the cyrillic and all, but the tail is just plain ugly. It looks like a 4 year old drew it.
I'm not at all suggesting that JAT be removed. But think about it, JAT is going to mean a TOTALLY new thing! Its not an abreviation anymore, i has nothing to do with Yugoslavia anymore, it was the same livery that was used during Milosevic's time, etc... I'm sure becuase there has been such a drastic change at JAT and in the country, they want to reflect that in their livery. Ultimately we can't do anything about it so lets be optimistic, the new livery may be just as striking or better than this one. After all, weren't we all sorry to see the "egg" go? Yet almost everyone go used to the new livery and loves it now. I'm sure it'll be like that with what they choose next.

Well... Alex, Mark...
What do you think about collaborating on a re-design together? I figure input and imagination from three people is better than simply one. Oh yea, i also have my own unofficial JAT website. Tell me what you think.

Well my idea for JAT would be a modernized version of the "egg":
1. Instead of a red egg it should be baby-blue and the letters saying "JAT" should be silver, not white. Also the old font should be used.
2. When the egg is placed on the tail it should look "over sized", i.e. it should be bigger than the tail so that when its placed on the tail the edges are sort of "missing" (this may be hard for you to imagine)
3. Then, in the center of the aircraft, above the wing (i.e. on the B737) a larger and complete version of the egg should be put, also baby blue and silver.
4. The engines should be painted red (like SAS does)
5. The background of the tail should also be painted red
6. On the top and to the left of the egg (above the windows) it should say "Airline of Serbia" and on the bottom to the right of the egg (under the windows) it should say "Avioprevoznik Srbije" This would be for the port side, startbord side would be the other way around.
I realize that this might sound weird and all, but in my head it looks great, although I don't exactly have the skills to put on paper/computer.
In addition to this I would introduce new, baby-blue uniforms with a silver lining along the edges of the blaizer and silver stripes near the bottom of the sleves on the sleves, sort of like stripes on military uniforms depecting rank. I would also bring the hat back, in the form of a "sajkaca" (to add a Serbian touch), except it would also have a silver lining and in the center would be the wings/badge FAs wear. It would be worn slanted though to make it look modern and not too serious. The knee-length skirts would also be baby-blue.
This is only for the female FA uniforms, I don't know what I'd do for the rest of the crew...
