Some airlines change their colour schemes every five minutes. Others keep them a bit longer. I was wondering which current schemes have been around the longest? Can anyone beat LTU?

Taken in 1976. The scheme could well be older than that.

Anyone have any other examples?

I would think that American's is much older than LTU's.

Air India has been around a long time too, although they did change briefly in the 90's then changed back again. This one taken in 1978.

How about Ethiopian Airlines? From the looks of it, their colour scheme has been virtually unchanged since at least 1960.

1976 - 2003...their color scheme is pushing 30 years old.

American's was introduced in 1968 but wasn't seen fleetwide until 1970.

I have a book "Civil Aircraft Markings" published early in 1960 that carries a photo of an Olympic DC-6B in a very similar livery to that subtly changed from dark blue/grey to a lighter blue about six years ago. But it is now too far changed for it be 'nearly' the same livery.

I would say Ethiopian's of the past 43 years has had the most staying power, although it has changed a little, notably the lack of 'EAL' on the fin.

Another one that lasted a long time, and is still carried on some VIP aircraft is the old green Saudia livery which goes back at least 30 years.

Looks as though LTU and Anerican are of the similar vintage - I found this F28 shot from 1970 but the same type the previous year was a different colour scheme.

Thai's scheme came out in the mid seventies, as did Air France's. This I remeber from my old days of model making. Those Microscale decals have a lot to answer for.

Don't think anyone is going to beat Ethiopian though.

Regarding Air India and LTU both made changes to thier colorscheme, but both weren't accepted by the passengers so they turned back to the old ones.

Strange no one mentioned VARIG. Before the Landor scheme, they held the last c/s since the 50s.

And until 1997, Delta would have been right up with Ethiopean with the old 'Widget' livery.

Luxair´s livery has been updated recently with the ´Luxair´- title´s font colour having changed from black green but I do agree that it´s rather an update than a livery change.Let´s not forget the (boring ) white fuselage of the F50 & ERJ´s , the ´reversed ´c/s on the F27´s in the 70s and 80s and the 707´s with a slightly modified cheatline.
